Roughness Inside Ear
Noticed the other day that Gandalf has a wee bit of rough skin on the inside of his ears just at the edges.
Will something like vaseline work on it? If not, any other tips?

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
Cheers, Mat, I'll give it a try.
Hayley, it's definitely not dirt as I've tried rubbing it off to no avail.

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
I find it's when Logan gets soaked and he hasn't dried off properly. So when I get home from the rain and always dry him off the best I can. Especially his ears.

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
Alf got a shower the other day there but I noticed it before then.
He also sneezed earlier and (apologies) released some snot.
I wondered if he was just a bit run down.

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
I don't think it's anything overly extreme. As long as it isn't red/inflamed or obviously distressing him don't worry about it too much

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
I'll try a wee bit of vaseline and see how it goes.
Thanks again mate.

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
Zeus has sore ears quite alot, they do get red, but not inflamed.
I clean them with 'ear wipes' but they don't seem to go away.
Think I'll try the vaseline too!

Not sure about the ear. I think your best bet is to try what the others have suggested.
However, sneezing accompanied by nasal discharge isn't normal. It could be that something is irritating his nasal passages, or it may be the start of an infection. Either way, keep an eye on it. If it was a one-off thing, it was probably just some dirt or dust trapped in his nose. If it continues, you should take him to a vet to get a proper diagnosis.

Re: Roughness Inside Ear
Hey Eleanor, thanks for your comments.
Thankfully it seems to have cleared up and to be honest I let it pass on its own. I kept checking it for a couple of days after creating this thread and his ears are definitely not as dry as they were. Maybe a tiny little bit left but it's certainly not as bad as it was.
The sneezing and the snot has definitely stopped though. That only happened once right enough, in fairness, but if it happens again I'll get him checked out.
