Bulking up? Empty Bulking up?

Post by MelCollierX Wed Mar 06 2013, 11:39

Hi my staffy is quite on the thin side and I'm wondering what I can give her to bulk her up a bit, she's 22 weeks but other staffers at her age are much larger ... Any ideas?

I honestly wouldn't woory too much about it. They all grow at different rates and will hit a growth spurt in time. Besides putting weight on too quickly can cause damage to their neuromuscular system and joints.

Suki was on the small side to when she was a pup but now is a little above average in size.

I'm worried because Lola's mum was a very thin staffy, will Lola be the same?

She will bulk up by her so don't worry about it. At 22 weeks she will still be a puppy and all Staffords, even the biggest ones go through a tall/thin phase.

Logan is 14 months and only starting to fill out now.

That food has a fairly high protein content, I wouldn't worry too much so long as she is healthy and well exercised she should be fine.

Genitics plays a role in their devolpment but if they are properly fed and exercised they will reach their full potential. Most everyone is nervous that they are too small when they are pups and then it balances out

So it doesn't matter that her mum was small and thin? I just don't think they look healthy when their like that & Lola doesn't seem to eat much through the day which is why we mix her food with fish, she then eats it all & enjoys it

If her mom is on the small side than she may also turn out that way. Genetics can't be changed but they can be optimized. If she is feed and exercised properly she will grow into the best dog she can be

It is possible she could look like her mother. But if she is exercised well and fed well she will be fine. A slim, fit Stafford is much better anyway.

Logan looked very tall, thin and awkward as a pup but now he's a big lump. Their upbringing has a lot to do with it. Smile

Fat staffys arent great.

A nice lean but muscular toned staffy is a lot nicer ! (exercise is all it takes and good quality food, but not overfeeding)

All pups go thru the lanky long legged skinny stage, she's gonna change a lot over the next 18mths !

forget bulk until 1 and half years, dont even think of over feeding at her age as youll do more harm than good mate. you wont really know what she is going to be like until she reaches adulthood and at 22 wks she has a way to go. for the moment think about good quality food, excercise, training and loving her to bits. dont get hung up about size as some keep growing to two and a half years old. enjoy the puppy years its a mixed bag of sizes and looks, take loads of pics as well as youll be amazed looking back. it makes your heart skip a beat remembering it all.
