hello to everyone
Hi everyone,
I joined back in November last year to get positive encouragement from the forum community as my poor baby girl had gotten into rat bait and needed to go to the emergency room. The thread in question can be found here
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t1183-im-worried-about-my-staffie
In short she has recovered 100% from the ordeal which required her to have a few bags of plasma, a blood transfusion, 24hr care over 4 days and 6wks of medication and a weekly check up to make sure her blood stats where going in the right direction.
Anyway enough of the bad, im sure everyone is dying to see and know more about the girl in question.
She is a pure bred English Staffie
Was born on 15th Aug 2007
Obviously female.
We named her Stollie after the vodka brand Stolichniya.
I purchased her from a pet store known for their wide range of puppies (name of store was puppyworld )
When I was looking at the staffies for sale, I was actually looking at all the others first as there was one particular pup that seemed quite aggressive and boisterous. I picked each one up and held them and then put them back as not one of them seemed right. I ended up holding on to the aggressive one and to my surprise, she was the only one who wagged her tail while I was holding her
This had done it, I had to have this puppy.
Now for the pic.
Looks a little guilty in this photo as she had just gone and hidden one of my shoes in the sand
Anyway hope you like her.
Look forward to being a little more active on the forum
Regards

Re: hello to everyone
You have no idea how upset I was about the whole situation. I was blaming myself and was anxious the whole time.
But as you hit the nail on the head, she is a little fighter.
The vet was saying that the amount of meds and plasma bags she had meant she ate quite a bit of the rat poison and under most circumstances given the time from when she ate it to when she got to hospital and the type of poison it was; she shouldn't have pulled through the way she did.
I was just so relieved when we got the phone call to come and pick her up from the hospital.
And thank you for the kind words

Re: hello to everyone
yeah unfortuantly I do.
We live in a fairly old house on acreage and in our kitchen we know of a hole that we used to get rats though.
We placed the rat bait near this hole and placed up a baby-gate to the kitchen so she wouldnt get to it as we knew it was harmful.
Obviously during this period the gate must have been left open at some stage or wasn't closed properly and she had gotten in and ate them.
Being grain based I can see why she was attracted to them.
It was the stupidest thing on my part to have them in the first place and to have them at such an easy level to reach. But since then I have very much learnt my lesson and no longer have any poison on the property.
EDIT: I should point out thou it is no consolation, we had tried rat traps of different types with various foods to draw them out and they didnt work. We do know the rat bait had been affective in the past.

Re: hello to everyone
haha its funny how so many dogs these days get named after drinks
bundy is a classic around here in AUS derived from Bunderburg Rum
Where did Scrumpy come from? Cant recall any cider drink with a name similar to that.

Re: hello to everyone
So glad she's made a good recovery. She's a real cracker, isn't she?
Scrumpy is often called 'rough' cider. You can get 2 types. One is the one you'll find in the supermarkets & is called Scrumpy Jack. It's quite strong. The other is quite cloudy, tasting very strongly of apples and has a kick like a mule that creeps up on you before you realise it! That one you tend to get in local shops & is locally made, normally in Somerset or Herefordshire. Bith are 'still' ciders.
What an understatement!
