flash is limping
Hi my 8 month old long leg staff has been to the vet twice now for favouring his front right paw . The last time being Sunday. Have been told after a lot of him being pulled about and movement checked that there is nothing significant wrong and rest him. Well that's funny even in itself really. However since Sunday the limp has got worse. Don't know what to do. Help?

Welcome to the forum!
Does it seem to be his paw distressing him or his joints/leg?

Hiya and welcome
How long have you been resting? Is he on anti-inflams? Yes they are high impact dogs, usually resting will sort it.
Maybe you could come say hi

Ok. Don't seem to have this forum sussed yet. Lost a whole post. Will try again. Due to flash not being aggressive or even worked out how to growl yet it is still uncertain whether it's paw or leg issue. I believe it's leg . He won't let you hold his paw and when he puts any weight on it it shakes. He is also feeling a little sorry for him self and is following me around rather than his dad who plays rough and tumble with him and who takes him for long walks. That said could the problem be due to the up to 2 hour walk tidy have up .rocks and over the sand on the beach.??? Over done it.?

Re: flash is limping
It's hard to know if the walk has made anything irritate him.
As Kathy was saying, is it possible to try another vet?
My last dog developed diabetes, and my vet said to put her down. I couldn't bare it so went to another vet and they got her sorted and she lived for years after. Sometimes you just have to get another opinion.

I think you need to give him at least a week's rest. Lead walking only & no high impact walks (so no up & down hills or jumping for balls etc). I know he'll probably go crazy, but it's the only thing that'll help in the long run.

Re: flash is limping
We have him on house arrest with garden only this week am collecting anti inflames tomorrow and will see how he goes but yes will take him to another vet by Friday if he don't improve. He is pulling sulky faces and wanting spoon feeding initially to get him to eat. Not that losing a few pounds would be bad thing. Bless him. X thanks guys.

In a word yes!
Total rest for a week, and I hope the vet has subscribed some anti-inflams! That means on-lead, for 5mins! Boring yes but needs to be done to rule anything further out. After the week rest as long as the limp has gone exersize needs to be built up slowly, no fetch or impact exersize.
If this doesn't help you may need to look down the route of x-rays Xx

Re: flash is limping
He is actually booked to be neuttered in couple weeks so whilst he is out for count can get x ray done. Fingers crossed rest will do it. Out of curiosity do long legged staffs need same restrictions on walks as pure staffs with short legs.?

Re: flash is limping
There is no such thing as a long legged staff really, you can have a taller staff but that is usually a staff x, Moo is rather tall so not breed to standard also a rescue Where did you get him from?
Not that it matters, I find her being leggier that she is super fast, has a mind like a pointer when hunting but the go like a staff, she will go like a bull
Very staffy antics Xx
Moo had a limp for a bit, turned out to be arthritis, we rested for nearly 8 weeks as that is sometimes how long it takes, wish I had the x-rays sooner.
With the anti-inflams and total rest I am sure you'll be grand Xx
