Introducing Ceasar and Zorra to our family
Hi My name is Vicki and we have just introduced Ceasar and his mum Zorra to our family yesterday. This is my 3rd time around with a staffy but my first with a male.
Ceasar is a big headed boy, 20 months old {like the picture of the dog above}and his mum is almost 4 yrs old.
They have both settled in quite well. They both are amazed at my horse and Im not quite sure if they would have a go at her.
The bitch seems to iniaciate the aggresivness and the male seems to want to finish it off.
My horse is in a seperate yard and we have limited the sight between them, but the staffies find it hard to leave the fence.
She is easily called back but he is an ignorant buggar. How can I teach a dog/s these ages too leave the horse alone as Im scared of what they might do if they get in to her?
The reason we found Ceasar is due to him and his father fighting. The mum has now been desexed and they wanted to get rid of her too.
She is very effectionate towards our young children. He is good too {as the original owners had small children}
Can anyone give me advice on how I should teach them to keep away from my horse without me moving her or getting rid of the dogs? We want a happy family for all of us.
Thanx in advance
vicki

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. I'm not sure what to advise in regards to the horse but there are some members on here that might be able to help.

Welcome to the forum.
The way to deal with their issues with the horse is too introduce them slowly and gradually over a period of time. Always on lead and correct any obvious bad behaviour.
If you have any pictures we'd love to see them

Not sure what to say about the horse issue as my 2 only get funny with other dogs and the cats apart from that they just show curiosity

Re: Introducing Ceasar and Zorra to our family
I don't know about the horse, however from what I have seen so far it is the same with any training. Maybe have a certain noise for them to recognise when they are doing something bad and just make sure it is all in each animals own time. If I were you, speak to a vet or local dog trainer. There may be one you can email. Just don't nervous all the time at the situation or you will cause them to feel they should have something to be nervous about.
