Laughing rebecca! It really is quite self evident once you start typing. Newest two versions are really intuitive (unless you came from the older versions and wonder where all the settings went...)

sorry guys just got back on, i have seen word documents that have a shortcut word icon under say a paragraph that takes you to another word document or Xcel document like a thumb nail on you desktop, tried hyper link but not the same????

I think you can type the e-mail or web address and hit enter twice at the end of where you want the link.

ht click on the doc you want and "create short cut" , right click on shortcut and "copy" then paste into your document

Is this what you want ? some documents you can just drag straight in with a left mouse click , but with some it will just expand the full document and place it in there (just tried this with an excel into word and it seems to want to open it in 2010)
Obviously this is only a shortcut so it means nothing if you send it to someone unless they have access to your desktop (shared) and if you move it then it no longer works
Alternatively you have the option in word to insert a file. I have 2010 so its a little different but similar
On the insert menu , select insert object and then you get all your options and can browse your pc for what you want , on 2010 there is also a tickbox for creat thumbnail.
Only thing though is it means the file is permanently embedded in your document so if its pictures and stuff can make the original document very large

no I'm sure it was on earlier versions of word , over the years I've had from 2000 onwards and know I've done it before, what version of word have you got and I will find out for you
