word of warning . . .
If you have a dog that has any sort of allergy beware of deer antlers!! Got some freebies at work from a reputable company today, 4 hours later my boy has a face like a shar pei, lol! Gutted coz he went to task on it & was loving it! Not so happy now with his big puffy face!

Re: word of warning . . .
So had I which is why I tried them with him. Gave him the deer antler to chew when I got back for lunch & then took it away again when I left. When my partner got home 3 hours later he looked a bit odd & by 6pm his face was huge! There is nothing else he has been in contact with today that he doesn't normally apart from this antler. Gonna contact the company tomorrow to ask what they use to wash them. Tempted to give it to him again just to make sure, got a stock of piriton!!

I'm going to take Ralph's away for a few days. He's on hay fever tablets but still has red eyes. They've been like this for a few months now. Maybe around the time i got his stag bar come to think of it. We've recently been trying eye drops too.

Re: word of warning . . .
I've never heard of any dog having an allergic reaction to the antlers? maybe he got into something else

Re: word of warning . . .
I'm really not convinced it was the antler. I've never heard of any adverse reaction to one before!

Re: word of warning . . .
I honestly haven't heard or seen any reactions to antlers before either, but there has been absolutely nothing different to Lenny's day apart from this antler! My boy is a bit special so it wouldn't suprise me if he's the only one to ever be allergic to antlers!

Re: word of warning . . .
It's one of those things that it seems like you can't be allergic to. Could be what they cleaned it with or whatever? Very weird.

Suki hasn't ever had a reaction from hers either and she is allergic to alot of things.

Poor Lennon, I hope he's feeling better soon. I know people can have allergies to the strangest things so I suppose dogs are just the same. A guy I worked with's mum was allergic to certain types of plastic

Re: word of warning . . .
I got photos & emailed the company today. He had to have a steroid injection & even now his face is still a little swollen, thinks its going to take a few days to settle. No more deer antlers though just to be on the safe side!

Re: word of warning . . .
Saxon has allergies and sensitivities and he does really well on antlers. We sell Moose antlers at the shop I work for and they are one of the most popular chews for allergy dogs. We've never once had a customer report a problem other than dogs not liking them. I'd say that, if it actually is the antler that caused it, there was something wrong with the batch because I've never heard of a dog being allergic to antlers. The reaction sounds like an insect bite to me. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, though.

How bizarre ! I was under the impression being a natural product it was hypoallergenic etc.
I wonder too if it may be a bite or something ? My Diesel was bitten by a gnat on her shoulder which swelled up a lot.
This time of year there are still loads of biting insects and spiders around.

Been wanting to try those. Do they last long? Frosty goes through a 12 inch antler (antelope) in about 3 days...

Re: word of warning . . .
Just wondering did you find out if it was the antlers that caused his flare up?
My girl had a severe allergy problem last year that we finaly managed to clear up when we put her on gluten free diet. But she's started scratching again now and making herself bleed again, I'm wondering if it might be the stag antler we gave her last week, I'll take it away anyway to see what happens but just wondered what your results were.
It will be annoying if it is that as she loves it, got her a jumbo and shes nearly got through it already lol -

The stag bars give Lola loose motions (she has a sensitive tummy).
