Re: Television reccomendations please?!?
these days anything branded tends to be fine. i got a 32" sharp HD ready 720p (so not full HD, but i'm not overly bothered) for £300 a year ago, so i'd imagine they should be down in price a bit

janey it will be a good tv it all depends how much tv you watch and what you watch fast moving films and sports it may seem a little fuzzy as refresh rate a bit slower and its a edge lit screen so picture not as clear as a direct lit.
but saying that chances are your old set will have only been 50htz so still going to be a better picture than what you had

Re: Television reccomendations please?!?
Well, I've had Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba and they have all been great. No clue on prices over there but here a 46-50 can be had for about $650 so I bet you could find one near that or even 42 that fits your budget!

Re: Television reccomendations please?!?
Well Samsung make most of the screens for tv companies these days and picture wise there one of the best.. Sound quality tends to let them down..
You need to decide what size your going for because there's different screen types for all sizes. LCD, Plasma and LED

Will you use surround sound speakers or rely on the tv sound?

Re: Television reccomendations please?!?
In the 40-50 inch sizes I haven't seen a whole lot of difference between LCD and plasma and currently have both. Blur is more with LCD but not a big deal with what you mention you watch. I'd just look for the best deal you can find on a reasonably well known brand and make sure it has the inputs you need (hdmi, etc.) if you have an older sound system be careful about audio outputs as most only have digital (although you can get digital to RCA conversion boxes online).

Ben your great, but I'm a simpleton when it comes to these things, if you could come and build your office in my lounge I would be happy!
Sadly to say, single female, not a clue where to start! Dodgy people saying they can install it! Thought I had made my mind up!!!
Oh no, now I realise why I still have a huge box set

I'd build one for ya if I was just a wee bit closer... Just go on amazon and have a gander at some of the lower priced tvs and order one up. They really are as simple as taking out of the box, setting it on your stand and plugging it in (ok maybe attach the stand). They don't weigh a thing for the most part. If you can carry Moo's food, you can lift this one yourself. No need to wall mount or anything fancy if it will fit where you had your dinosaur.

Re: Television reccomendations please?!?
Samsung & LG make most of the screens for all the other manufacturers these days, best thing to do is to just go to the shops and see which has the best picture next to all the others.

Re: Television reccomendations please?!?
Sorry Janey I cannot really advize on the smaller TV's but I know if you get one from John Lewis they do a 5 year guarantee on all their TV's which could be very useful.
