My vicious staffy
So, I've been told via Facebook that Tank looks vicious because of his collar and harness.... How stereotypical is that !
Makes me so angry that ppl can think that just because a staffy is wearing hardwearing strong gear - it means they are some kind of ferocious beast !!!!

Re: My vicious staffy
People have no idea on how lovely staffies can be, they just listen to the bad press & dont find out for themselves. I've converted my family who were wary of me getting a staff but they have all fallen in love with Katy!!!! But then who wouldn't

Some people are very quick to jump to conclusions before having all the facts, take no notice you know your dogs

Re: My vicious staffy
Same reason why people think people who wear old-looking clothes are lazy and/or poor, I guess. Everyone judges, some more than others. Stupid though, just a collar/harness, if anything it'd say you're vicious, not Tank, since you picked it out

I saw a sign in our local pet shop that said "Never mind the dog, beware of the owner" and was very tempted to buy it

Re: My vicious staffy
Have to laugh at the way people sterotype things all the time... A good safe, solid leather harness and collar and your dog suddenly becomes vicious??... We pointed out ours could easily break a pretty Nylon collar with a plastic clasp decorated in blue bones, I'm thinking to many people are reading The Daily Fail....

Every time I see Tank's pic, I thank God I live over the big pond. I don't think I could take the licking! People will always be dense, just have to shake your head and be thankful you aren't like that yourself!

Dogs like chiuhahas need muzzles! They may look cute but they are the yappiest dogs ever!! Staffs have such a bad reputation just because they done look "cute" even though we all know they do

I was told today by someone who I rarely see " oh no your not getting another one if those fighting dogs are you " when I told them about the new arrival.
I have decided to stop worrying about offending people who obviously don't show me the same courtesy . I don't need their approval and if they dismiss mr when I try to educate them , I don't care for their company !

Re: My vicious staffy
Tanks new El Perro harness?? If anything that softens his look up, it's mighty looking.
I get that too tbh. When Logan was a puppy he wore a litle studded collar because it was cute on him. Now he rarely wears a collar, just a plain harness. I have just got an ezydog one though which softens his look up.
When I'm walking on busy roads I use a short chain for safety, plus it rolls up into my jacket pocket better. It obviously looks a lot meaner to idiots than the flexi lead and I've found I get more nasty comments when he's on the chain.

Narrow minded idiots!
My mum never liked staffs until she met Knox now she even pops rounds to the young couple next door to pet their two staffs
What really annoys me is when we take Knox to an open market and people pull their kids out the way and say don't touch it'll bite. I have to stop myself from biting them for their stupidity

I know, it's stupid, I get it all the time too. Zeus looks vicious etc, little do they know if he got close to them, all he'd wanna do is lick them and play, not bite!

Re: My vicious staffy
I got this the other day..I was standing outside the local shop with Izzy waiting on my mum and there was a woman standing on the other side who stopped a man and started whispering and staring because apparently my dog is 'horrible'
They got a shock when my five year old Godson came out and took the lead off me (all the while supervised of course) and claimed she was his best friend :L

Re: My vicious staffy
Unfortunately its the way of the world, I have been judged for most of my life for one reason or another.
When I was younger I used to take a lot of drugs so was branded junky scum, the fact I was in full time work and enjoyed it in the same way other have a drink meant nothing I was a drug user which means I must rob people ect ect.
I also tend to wear hoody's a lot even now, I find them useful to keep warm to be honest. So again branded as hoody scum who rob old people and generally a nusence to the general public.
In reality I work doing internet marketing and Monday to Friday 9-5 I wear a suit to work, if people see me dressed like that people treat me totally different and have had comments to my wife such as what does he do for a job looks important, ect.
Again if I walk our dogs with my hoody on I am branded as a youth with an aggressive dog (Even though I am 32). Funny enough I don't like walking 2 staffs across a playing field ect when I am suited and booted. In reality I am the type of guy who does things like couple of weeks ago, I saw and elderly man struggling to get to the post box on the snow and ice, so I stopped my car and got out took it off him and posted it for him (Wearing a hoody), think he thought the worse to start off with he looked rather worried till I said can I help you there chap.
Try not to let them types of comments bother you. (It's hard I know)

Re: My vicious staffy
i agree with johneva, i too wear hoodies because i find them comfy and also while it's cold i wear gloves. if the weather is bad i have a henri lloyd jacket which is perfect for rain etc. hence why it's a top sailing brand, but scalleys wear them to look "hard". this plus me with a staff doesn't look good, i fall straight in the category of the stereotype staff hooligan. never judge a book by its cover, i have a good job and i too wear a suit, tie etc, my own house etc etc. It really is getting on my nereves how other dog owners go out of their way to avoid us....unless its a fellow staffy owner.
i've also had people show a different view when you talk about pets and you say you have a staffy.
people just need to own or be close to a staffy to realise what brilliant dogs they are.

Exact same as me mate, I'm 25 (what most people would consider young i guess?), when I take Zeus for a walk, especially in this weather, I'll wear a hoody to keep warm, hat to keep my head warm, jogging bottoms because their comfortable to walk an hour in and trainers to comfort my feet, but most people look at me like I'm some sort of chav and majority of the time cross the road or give me an evil look, pointless really.
