Urgent help needed in Wrexham
My oh has just spent the last half hour trying to get a staffy which was running loose around the roads in Wrexham.
He has put in in our dogs travel crate in the car. Apparently it was freezing cold and incredibly distressed.
Question is what to do with her? Worst case scenario we can take her back to our house but what are our other options?? I don't want to give her to a dog warden if he will put her down after 7 days etc. Apologies I am just worried about handing her over to anyone if anything bad would happen I've heard too many bad things!
Shes a beautiful girl (my OH sent me a pic).

Are there any nearby shelters/rescues? You can call to ask if they can take it.

Thank you so much! Will post the pic of him later.
I hope there is an innocent explanation as to why such a handsome dog would be petrified and wandering alone saddens me alot if theres not.

No worries! Hope hes ok
Well HOPEFULLY it may be a case of the dog ran out the front door or something as opposed to being LET out the front door. Hopefully someone somewhere is desperate to find the poor little thing!

If you can get him to a rescue centre please do so. He will then get the appropriate checks and hopefully be re homed very soon, they will also scan for a microchip.

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
Just called Capricorn animal rescue they say politically they can't take the dog as it was in wrexham and thats a different area.
They said i have to call the dog warden and i asked what happens if the dogs not picked up after 7 days...she said 'some go to rescues' how can I give the dog to people like this?? Makes me cry thinking about it being pts
Grrr we are going to take it to a vets and hopefully its chipped.

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
Maybe you could try ringing a local vet? If someone has lost him they may have phoned their vet to see if anyone has seen him - especially if hes chipped

Definitely try that Hilbrae Kennels - they seem to take in a few so may have more chance with them

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
Dog, lets call him Bob, is coming home with us tonight just spoke to my other half.
They went to a local vet and he's not chipped. He needs a good feed and water. Basically vets told oh off the record if you can take him its better than him going to the warden. There was another dog in the vets and they got on fine with no DA.
My oh keeps telling me 'we're not keeping him' hehehe! We have a heated garage and outdoor kennel if he doesn't get on with our two.

Oh thats good! At least he will be safe and warm tonight! I bet the owners are kicking themselves for not chipping him Presuming of course they lost him by accident!

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
I will ring loads of vets tonight and see if he's been reported missing and then try and find him a home. So many other people just ignored him running scared amongst a very busy town road. Very proud of my oh.

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
As a positive this story has raised the topic of staffy's in my office....
One person dared to say a negative about how aggresive they were and thats why they were in rescues. Well then there was no shutting me up then lol!
Dogs are a topic I do not take lightly.

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
You'll have to post a couple of pics and some precise details of where he was found then we can post around , share on FB etc and see if we can get this fella home , good luck and well done to you and the OH for doing the decent thing

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
Just sat down for a cup of tea! He is such a good dog!
Took them all out on a walk (neutral ground etc) and they were all really good!
Our cat comes on dog walks and Dereck the dog (OH named him temporarily!) was brill, actually scared of the cat! Our cats are now camped out on the stairs clearly not so happy about the new arrival.
Fed him and he clearly is partial to chicken, would only eat in the crate. We've just put him into his crate and he is clearly knackered.
Moll has had a brilliant time playing this evening!
Will do a proper post later and try to get some pics after I've had dinner
All in all a scared but lovely dog.

Would it be a feasible prospect for him to stay with you should he not be claimed ??

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
That's a sweet looking dog. did you put that collar on him, or is it his own? No name tag I suppose, if so.
If you can keep him tonight, that would be great, and hopefully some news will come from a frantic owner in the meantime.

He is absolutely gorgeous!!! Im not sure if i should say this but but he looks so relaxed

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
Collar was on him, no tag or microchip. The vets my oh went to have reported him as found to the council and they have all of our details. So if the owner contacts the dog warden they know exactly where he is.
He's had a good dog and yup hope he is loved and they come find him

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
Shame there's no tag or microchip (the collar tag at least is "law" in the UK) but he looks well cared for - someone must be missing him surely.

He's gorgeous, he does look well cared for so hopefully he can be reunited with his mom/dad but looks like he is settling in well to his foster family

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
I dreamt about finding a stray Stafford on the motorway last night
I brought her to my mum's cleaned her up then introduced her to Logan and it worked well.
This was only a dream though lol. Still think this is what I'd do

Re: Urgent help needed in Wrexham
I'm going to work on making him a profile on doglost tonight. I know should have probably done it already but being honest its been very manic!
He was really good during the night. Woke up once with him barking but I think that was because the cat was nosing in the crate! He has a healthy respect/scared of the cats!
This morning I was preying that our two were very well behaved on the walk as it was just me walking all three. And although we only went out for 25 mins they were all really good! New dog stayed on an extender lead with Moll and Watson off lead.
Tonight we will go for a longer walk and my oh is coming with me.
Very vocal dog it's funny. We've been talking seriously about keeping him if he's not claimed and to be hoenst the main issue is finances. Just going to have a good long think over the next couple of days!

I wouldn't bother. Poor lad may have been out for a good while. It'll most likely just go away.
