Questions about food..... Empty Questions about food.....

Post by brophski Wed Feb 20 2013, 00:00

Hey guys, Sky is now 13 weeks old bless her. However I am still feeding her 4 x a day, and it's dam difficult lol. Would I be able to knock it down to three yet? At the moment she is having a whole tin of wainwright puppy food, being fed 1/4, with a bit of dry kibble on top.

Even though I feed her a little bit more than I should, she hovers around the bowl wanting more. She never seems full :-( is this normal?

Whilst I am here, I've also not really fed her any none dog food yet, is it a good idea to give them such things as scrambled egg etc? or is it best to wait till she is an adult.

James.

Been such a long time since I had a pup. I never fed 4 times a day only 3, but people will differ on that and yes they do always appear hungry at that age, they don't know when to stop so if she is happy and healthy your doing the right thing. As for human food I wouldn't myself Xx

I don't see any harm in going to three meals a day at that age as long as the overall amount of food remains the same. We fed a bit of human food at that age like veggies but only as a treat. Just be aware it may give her some gas or the runs.

At that age they are growing at an amazing rate which is why the seem hungrey all the time.
I moved mine to three times a day at around 14 weeks and then twice a day a couple of months later.

Three times a day is absolutely fine. And yeah scrambled egg is fine, at this age I tend to try them on different things to see what they can tolerate and also to stop them being fussy later in life! But try to avoid things that are too rich. Also chicken wings etc as a treat are good at this age.

I generally work the number of meals as follows...

8 weeks till 12 weeks 4 times a day
12 weeks till 6 months 3 times a day
6 months onwards twice a day for life, although many people then reduce to 1 meal a day at around 10 months to a year.

So 3 meals a day is fine as long as you add the amount of the 4th meal equally to the other three.

Scrambled egg is fine, also some veg if you want.

Can I ask why you're feeding mainly tinned food? It's about 80% water so that might explain why she never seems full?

noah is always after food, even when he's just been fed, he would eat until he burst.

3 meals a day is fine now , we would always make 1 of them scrambled egg , mince or something like that , my breeder always liked to concentrate on chunking them up in the early days as they have plenty time to work it off. Would certainly think about dropping the wet if you can though and more on kibble

Exactly what I done, Zeus is now a year old and is on 2 meals a day for life.
