enough excersise!
I get a bit obsessed sometimes that Vinnie hasnt had enough excersise, I take him every morning about 40 mins again at lunch time (if I am here) about 50 mins and again in evening for about 30 mins. Obviously this is winter time so in lighter nights it would be longer. I suppose the proof is that he sleeps all evening and is very contented. Just wondered what everyone else does?

Its not just me that walks her mum uses her as an excuse for not paying for a gym membership, which means I don't have to pay a dog walker win win

Re: enough excersise!
With mine it's school run walk, slobber over a load of school kids, run round the local fields then bk home...about 40mins
Afternoon - about 40mins run round fields or walk down the marshes before school pickup.
Weekends it's longer as hubby is around. As we get into summertime etc, they will get a nice evening stroll but I'm not one for walking in the dark !!
Other than that, they are as chilled and content as I'd wish for x

Re: enough excersise!
Weekdays its an hour in morning but have to drag em out and they mostley just sniff things so its a slow slow walk after which they go straigh back to sleep...back for lunch and a 20 min dash and then straight back to sleep... At night 1 to 2 hours of frenzied zipping about and then back home for dinner. Lots of play fighting and maybee another quick walk if the tv is bad. Weekends we sleep in together then mix up spring pole, flirt pole, tyre pulls and up to a 9 mile walk depending on the workouts. Then an easy night walk up to an hour. Youd think id be fit but in reality my knee is shot my hips kill and the tendon that runs up the back of your feet is always aching... Fit my * in falling to bits lol

I say your doing fine. If you feel he needs more exercise you could invest in a flirt pole. Great to use in the garden, helps keep them nicely toned tooinez maria wrote:I get a bit obsessed sometimes that Vinnie hasnt had enough excersise, I take him every morning about 40 mins again at lunch time (if I am here) about 50 mins and again in evening for about 30 mins. It varies for us but at least 2 hours per day. She goes to the dog park in the morning most days but sometimes we will go backpacking for 6-10 miles

Re: enough excersise!
We used to do 20mins morning 40 mins evening sometimes 1hr ( brisk walking Or on the field with a long lead ) then at the weekend always out with him , either at the beach at the caravan
or swimming in the sea , or a few hrs country walk . In the summer I used to run 4 times a week and take him
along ( 25min) but when he was old he just did the walks. He never seemed bored and other than puppy stuff wasn't destructive .

Re: enough excersise!
Rocky has about an hour in the morning then the same again in the afternoon, with play times in between. In the summertime we fit in another hour later in the afternoon/early evening and sometimes take out a pic nic dinner with us and make an evening of it.

Re: enough excersise!
Twice a day for Stig, 6am -7am, about 15 minutes of that is on the lead and the other 45 without, only come across 2 other dogs at that time and both dogs and owners are happy for them to play together and we ussually end up walking around the field together while the dogs run around like lunatics. Evening walks have changed to 8pm-9pm as a few of us have formed a bit of a dog walking "gang" so to speak and although late it fits around everyones work schedules nicely, again 15 minutes on lead and the rest without, if any of the dogs show any signs of aggression toward each other they'd be back on the lead but so far not happened. I don't walk him through the day as although currently out of work I will be going back in a month or 2, don't want him to get use to a daytime walk and then take it away from him, Sunday mornings he gets about 3hr mostly off the lead, lead go's on when we get near roads or parks then comes off soon after. Inbetween walks he gets about 15minutes in the garden roughly every hour

Re: enough excersise!
During the week I work long hours from very early in the morning and normally only get one long walk, about an hour or so, but we play games at home too. At the weekend I walk basically all day lol, I find it very relaxing personally and it gives me a chance to get my head cleared.
I could probably do with doing a bit more exercise during the week, it's hard when the weather is so bad though.

Re: enough excersise!
I don't like walks to much, I walk my boy to a big field where no dogs go take him of the lead and run around with him play fetch and ty of war all this for about 2 hours then if we go out during the day we take him with us, if he doesn't have a long run he doesn't get tired that's why I don't like to walk him just on the lead, I feel like that's not enough as he doesn't get tired.

Re: enough excersise!
a flirt pole is basically like a giant cat toy, a pole with a bit of rope and a toy tied to the end. The dog then chases it around and it is really tiring for them

Re: enough excersise!
Hi, could you tell me where to get one from - had a search and it seems they are all in the US. Not confident enough to make my own.

Ah thanks Ella, well definatly something that needs to be done in the park or field, don't think there is enough space in my 'corridor' of a garden but something I'm going to look into for her

Re: enough excersise!
I have seen flirtpoles on eBay from the USA. I'm an eBay addict and I've bought stuff from all over the world, don't be worried about buying from the US as they are just as reliable as our own sellers (as long as you have checked their feedback obv). The products I've seen have been pretty rubbish looking though.
Depending on how hard the dog plays they are fairly straightforward to make. Logan plays ROUGH, he'd break pretty much anything. So I would need to make a substantial flirtpole. There are some brill vids on youtube about making them, most of them are buy pitbull owners in America so if you search something like "pitbull flirtpole" you will find some useful vids!
Then put something your dog will chase, when I get around to it I'll be using some old socks as Logan's eyes light up when he see's a pair of socks haha

Re: enough excersise!
We take usually take Ella out half hour in the morning and an hour in the evenings we take a ball with us and she runs all over the place chasing it and fetching it back so she gets lots of excercise that way
