Microchips. The importance. Empty Microchips. The importance.

Post by Jackieb Fri Feb 15 2013, 19:22

A friend of mine has been thru hell thus week. She owns 4 staffys.

During the week, her bk garden fence was kicked in and one of her dogs stolen. Frantic appeals, posters etc followed for the next 2 days. A broken hearted family.

Anyway, little Enzo the staffy was found at the side of a road by a lady who took him to the nearest vets. He was thankfully reunited with his owner yesterday afternoon only because he was microchipped.

Unfortunately Enzo had been cut by whomever took him in a bid to remove his chip....he is ofc traumatised, won't eat, very nervous and not like himself at all. We can only hope that given time the mental scars will heal and he will recover.

So please make sure your staffys are chipped, dont let them roam around the garden on their own...a split second is all it takes.

Poor thing! Sad Thanks for posting that. Goes to show how important it is - and it only takes a couple of minutes to get it done.

Same as Mat, I understand the importance of microchipping and Loki's chipped, but doesn't seem all that great if people try to cut it out Sad

That poor dog, and poor owner. I wish both of them a swift recovery, both mental and physical.

I got Roger chipped yesterday. I'd originally planned to wait until he was castrated as my parents' dog was pretty traumatised by the whole thing and hated the vet ever since...but I decided I was more scared of him getting stolen than anything else.

So, off we went to pets at home - to avoid association with the vet - and the little boy didn't even notice the needle, or the fact that he was bleeding for a bit afterwards.

In fact, I think Lizzy was more concerned when she found the spot later on xD

What a shocking story. Glad to hear that little Enzo is home. Poor little baby.

Unfortunately seeing posters of missing staffs is an all to frequent around my way.

There really is no excuse not to get your dogs chipped. The Dogs Trust run free microchipping events

Betsyboo totally agree. Had mine since pups but had a kind of tension until i had them chipped as it means i have at least a fighting chance of being reunited with them. They are both tagged but i have read stories of people finding dogs and can you beleive this removing the collar to read the tags and the dog getting free again. Thats why im so pro chip, every time i go to vets its like being at tesco as they scan them to make sure all is okay

Pleased he is back ok Smile how unbelievably disgusting can some people be to go to those kinds of lengths , we're quite fortunate with our garden as it is surrounded by other secure gardens on all sides but we would still never leave them outside for long, it doesn't take people long to pick up on routines and hatch a plan however safe you might think you are

I dont think Enzo would of made it alive if they did manage to cut out the chip . It have to be surgically removed and by them cutting him could have caused uncontrollable bleeding . Smile

Glad Enzo is safely at home and wishing him a speedy recovery Wink

I have read somewhere before about scum stealing people pets then trying to cut out the microchips. How sick is that ??

We dont let Rocky out of our sight when at the flat or out on a walk. We have some undesirables near where we live and wouldn't trust anyone as far as I could throw them, which wouldn't be very far at all.
