Re: Having two dogs
I know people with Staffys and another breed . As they like to play quite hard I would probably choose something robust that would enjoy the constant playtime . What kind of breed were you considering ?

Should do. If they're not dog-aggressive then there's no reason why not.

Re: Having two dogs
It wouldn't be for quite a while as Charlie is still only a puppy and still learning but if I didn't get another staffie I like German Shepherds My son would love a husky!

Re: Having two dogs
Tyke has been around all dogs, black labs, puppies, huskys, staffs etc etc but i would advise to socialize with as many dogs you can as he is growing up. He will learn alot of things from older dogs and also helps with manners and how to play.
Tyke can generally put him self to each diff situation

Re: Having two dogs
He's getting braver at sniffing other dogs when out for a walk, bit wary of the bigger ones though...I'm sure he'll improve even more. I regularly walk with a friend and she has a pug

Re: Having two dogs
I have a staffy and a lab x collie and they get on great. I have to keep out of the way when they are bouncing around the room playing lol. I do separate them when I'm out of the house just incase any disagreements start

Re: Having two dogs
I've got 3 dogs ! It's a handful but worth it! 9yr old mongrel, 17month old male SBT and a 22 week old female SBT they do play rough though, so some dogs may not be as suitable as others! Another staff, GSD etc would be more suited rather than a teacup chihuahua or something

Oh look at them, so comfy. How could you bear to disturb them by climbing into your bed?

Re: Having two dogs
Staffs are really rough and i dont think u wana get a pug as the second dog .
So with your choice of dog being a GSD im sure there will not be a problem .
Personally i think get another staffy

Re: Having two dogs
Stuart, I don't like the little dogs so no chance of one of those, and BobbyLee I'm not so keen on the squished up faces of the pugs either. I do love the staffy smile Some lovely photos here. Dave, the Bull Mastiff looks fierce...my son likes the look of the Tibetan Mastiff (he likes BIG dogs even though he's only 9!!) Did you see the Tibetan Mastiff that sold for nearly £1,000,000? Pricey!!
When you say staffies play rough what do you mean? Do they bite and hurt each other?

I agree with this . My brother has a springer and it was the only dog who could match our staffy 's enthusiasm for play . The springer was always the boss too

They do bite bt not hurt one another . My two bite and tug on each others cheecks , legs , neck , etc bt no injuries . however that kind of play with another breed could in my own opinion could be a problem . Staffies are strong , tough and dont get hurt easily .

Zarr isn't fierce at all , he's a great big softie, though if Tilly pushed him too much he could put her down with 1 paw and a massive bark
Rough play is just as it sounds and to someone that doesn't know it can be a little shocking but no injuries just lots of semi gentle leg biting , ear pulling , cheek pulling etc

Re: Having two dogs
Good to know in advance about the play fighting Cesca, look forward to seeing your video (sorry, don't know how you upload them either)
Saw a few lovely staffies at the park this morning, one could have been Charlie's older brother, although maybe uncle as he was 11 years old!
Would you say getting a female rather than another male would be better?

Play fighting is fun lots of noise and jumping and play biting! Bailey pulls Sierra about with her legs
I'd say get a female. Although males can and do get along it usually works better with different sexes!

Re: Having two dogs
The only reason I got Charlie was I wasn't sure how a female dog would be in season....(very inexperienced dog owner!! lol. We always had male dogs when I lived at home) is it very messy and does it last long? Charlie's little sister had been seperated to the next cage at the rescue

with staffords and bullies it's normally recommended to get a dog of the opposite sex to go with your current dog, I however don't do female dogs so will only have males, have 2 currently and they get on amazingly

Ella, can I ask why you only do male dogs? Did you get your second dog as a pup?
