Is he a "real" staffy?
Harvey was rehomed to me as a Staffy but talking to some people they say he's too tall to be a "proper" one. I'm just wondering if they come in all shapes and sizes or if they should be smaller?

Well could we have a picture.. Real staffs are short but are not all the same size.

Re: Is he a "real" staffy?
My answer to that is go into a town centre look about tell me how many "real" people you see. Dogs like humans come in all shapes and sizes whatever the breed, only exception are dogs breed for conformation. You can have tall, short, chunky, thin, muscley, athletic or thin staffs but its still a staff if both parents are staff. Admitadley there are alot of crosses (my two included) but they generally have a glaring trait from the non staff parents showing through making a cross easy to see.

They come in all shapes & sizes, but until we can see some pics of yours, it's hard to comment!
That's a hint by the way. >
P.S. Just seen one pic, and he looks pretty much like a stafford to me - but it's very difficult to be 100% sure at his age, they go through so many changes!

Re: Is he a "real" staffy?
He's lovely.
I'm on the defensive here. Kenny is 2 inchs over the standard. It gets me down when people keep on about height. (not you guys) Your baby looks good to me. And just remember the "original Standard" was up to 18inch, so, my answer when some one say's, nice but a bit tall. I say, well of course, because he's an Original Staffy, old school
Because he's tall doesnt mean he aint a Stafford, a lot depends on the dogs in his ped. All Kennys litter mates are with in the standard, but he's by far the best looking

Re: Is he a "real" staffy?
Have a look through the gallery on here to see the many different shapes and sizes they come in, or go on youtube and look at staffordshire bull terrier best of breed, there's no doubt whatsoever that they are "proper" staffies but the size difference and features are very noticable, he's a great looking dog.

You'll never be 100% sure, but they do come in all different shapes and sizes.

Re: Is he a "real" staffy?
Can I just say I'm not at all worried about whether he is or he isn't - I seem to have perhaps given that impression. I was asking more to confirm as I want to get him insured so was hoping to find out what to put ie staffy or crossbreed. I couldn't care less if he was crossed with a Giraffe as it doesn't change him at all. He's beautiful to me regardless. I was just interested as I like to find out as much as possible about species/breeds of animals which I care for so was just being nosy really
Thanks for all the replies and I'm sure Harvey would agree!

Re: Is he a "real" staffy?
Romeo is a very big staffy, rather leggy too. his father has been to crufts and his mother is pretty much champion of all of scandanavia, he has blood lines that can be traced back to the original breed standard dogs... but everyone thinks he's too big and a pit bull.
Even if you KNOW they are full staff, they are like people.... everyones a little different. all special snow flakes right

Totally agree. Also, i have a pic some where of Kenny when he was quite young, they look like brothersTaryn wrote:Romeo is a very big staffy, rather leggy too. his father has been to crufts and his mother is pretty much champion of all of scandanavia, he has blood lines that can be traced back to the original breed standard dogs... but everyone thinks he's too big and a pit bull.

They grow at various rates, look lanky some days, like barrels the next. Just enjoy your baby
