Real Ale
Do we have any real ale connoisseurs among us. I love a pint of real ale such as Hobgoblin and Spitfire ? Do you like any real beer ?

Re: Real Ale
I would enjoy it, but rarely drink it because it isn't readily available in bars etc here.

Re: Real Ale
I would much prefer to enjoy this on tap but the bottled stuff is a bit easier to get hold of so have to settle for that

The OH likes it but I'm a cidar or wine girl, with the occasional JD thrown in

Re: Real Ale
i'd take a decent ale over lager anyday. lucky enough to have a local small brewery that hold "open evenings" every month or so. just to sample the latest batch, y'know...

Re: Real Ale
Love the stuff
im a bit of an ale geek tbh. i dont go around scoring them or boring peoples ears off about them though. i just like drinking them :p
i work in a real ale pub with an ever changing array of ales and do the majority of the cellar work so i get to try them all ^_^
(I need to give the customer an accurate and concise description of each of course )
i tend to like bitters and pales
not really a fan of really hoppy stuff, or darker ones like porters and stouts
a few of my faves are;
thornbridge "jaipur" which is a proper india pale ale so its fairly strong (5.9%) it doesnt taste strong though and goes down so easy so i have to remember to pace myself :p
castle rock "harvest pale". really nice pale ale. its only 3.8% so its good for a long session drink
and wychwood "wychcraft" which is again a lower strength pale
i highly reccomend those 3 if you havent already tried them
they tend to be higher percentage in bottles though. i think the "wychcraft" is 3.8 from the cask but 4.5 from the bottle
there arent that many bars that do real ales locally so on nights out i tend to just hit the spirits. whenever i do stumble across them on a night out though i always get stick from my mates for drinking ales :/
"what are you drinking an old mans drink for?"
"youre 26 not 86! get some proper drink in you!"
"why are you drinking that p*ss?" (they say that whilst im drinking a 6.5% ale and theyre holding a bottle of 3% lager or similar)
*face palm*

Re: Real Ale
Stocked up on real ale this afternoon. Just tried the Wychwood Wychcraft that was great but didn't get a chance to chill it then it would have been better , now on the Badger First Gold, I could really get a taste for this.

Re: Real Ale
im glad you enjoyed it ^_^
i'd always encourage people to try ales as theres so many of them out there that theres more than one for everyones taste
and from working in pubs ive come to realise that most people never really go back to lagers once theyve got a taste for the ale :p

I do! However, we don't have the same stuff here that you get over the pond.

Re: Real Ale
Ben, have you tried any beers from the goose island brewery (based in chicago)?
their indian pale ale is one of the best beers ive ever tasted.
It should be easy to get hold of over there and i'd highly recommend it

Why yes I have and it is a splendid ale! We get that a few places out here. Pricey but good! Also, love Arrogant B@stard. It is very dark ale so good for those times when I'm really needing a thick drink.
