"staffy proof" toys?
So, I will never learn. Skye is 9 months old and she's currently cwtched up with her head on my lap snoring like butter wouldnt melt.....
She can literally chew through anything, but I just can't stop buying her toys though. I love to spoil her. It is a waste of money though, as a "tough" toy can literally last her 5 mins. We have to take the stuffing out of toys because she eats it, she can't have rope toys because she eats the rope (and we''ve ended up pulling bits out of her bum), she eats the plastic/rubber off toys etc... She can crush tennis balls and/or eats the fluff off it.
We've taken to buying her antlers and rawhide (shoes, balls, bones) because they're actually edible.
Can anyone recommend a toy or edible-toy that would either last her a bit longer or is ok if she eats?
Any advice is much appreciated. Skye loves new toys and sniffs around our shopping bags looking to see what we've bought her every time we go shopping. She is a spoilt lil girl.

If you do find something let me know
Boomer balls are good but not really for indoors, or a safe stix maybe, Moo hates anything she can't destroy but fortunately she doesn't eat them! Xx

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
We've just started using StagBars/antlers like you and they are working well.
As for other toys, basically nothing lasts, all of these tuff toys are destroyed in minutes by Logan then I have to gather the bits up incase he swallows them.
Cheap rope toys from pound shops do well. We also use an extreme Kong which seems to be lasting well.

Kongs and stag bars, other than that we use ropes or stuffed animals form the second hand store

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Rocky also has the stag bars and Kongs. We also make toys out of old egg boxes and hide treats inside for him then just lightly tape them up with sellotape, old cereal boxes can also be used for this. My hubby made a tug toy out of an old bed sheet, just tie knots in randomly.

I am going to do this! Sounds like a great idea and Logan would absolutely love doing that

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
I've tried an endless amount of toys which are supposedly staffy proof but are not. The only ones that have lasted long and are worth the money are:
1) Stagbar
2) Chuck it balls (from Amazon)
3) Coconut (yes, an actual coconut)
4) Rope toy (only for tug of war, not chewing)

Make some home made old pair of jeans tyed in knots always good for some fun and does not cost alot. I did once with our old dog buster have a dog tire which seemed at the time to last along time i got it from my local pet shop but never seen them since any where.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
The black extreme kong is great I think it is about £7. lola has not managed to destroy it yet. She loves carrying it around and chewing it. I have just ordered the kong extreme goodie bone to give that a try . Boomer balls are good, get a biggish one, they like to chase it on the laminate floor, its quite noisy when it smacks off things.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
I'm definately going to try the coconut! I didn't know whether to buy a Kong because she manages to chew through everything, but I'm going to give that a try too. Also, the old jeans etc is a good idea. Thanks everyone. People think I exaggerate when I tell them she can destroy anything, it's nice to know you all know where I'm coming from :-) x

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Ella has eaten everything we have put in front of her, Red Kong lasted about ten min but she wont go near the black Kong? we have a large treat dispensing Kong and she loves chasing that around till its empty, but all the so called tough toys just get munched, The nylon bones last quite well but make her gums bleed when she gets into a gnawing spree so just have to keep an eye on her. Her favorite and longest lasting toy (about 2 years) is an old woolly sock with a knot tied in it lol

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
just echoing the above really I forgot about coconuts Ledger loves them but also loved pushing them against the skirting board,
kongs are also a great call i first got a regular red one which nearly 2 yrs on he is starting to pull apart at the top, the extreme one looks like new though
Chuck it balls are also lasting really well he does have a chomp when we are playing fetch but i've learnt that if i leave him to really chew on it he can break into one
I'm lucky Ledger loves to pull apart his toys but doesn't eat the bits so he gets charity shop soft toys/tennis balls/footballs as treats to make a mess with he is also really good at helping with recycling as will pull apart large boxes into tiny pieces for me

The flavored nylabones work for us! Tessa used to go nuts when we came home after leaving her for a while but now just stands at the front door with the bone in her mouth and tail wagging when she hears us.I will say that i agree they can make their gums bleed if they are really keen chewers (tessa has about half an hour a day with it) and they are quite expensive at around £15 for the large one but they should last for months.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Had to laugh, nothing lasts with Pixee either, the bloomer ball is the best thing ever. We let her have it in the house, on boy the noises she made over it, she will cry, growl at it. The kong is the only thing that has not been chewed to bits, we are lucky in that Pixee will chew bits off any toy and make a show of chewing it, but them spits it out. Going to try a sock with a knot in it, but somewhat worried, as Pixee will pick up dirty socks then drops them wherever , once caught her with my bra to sons horror Oh well lets see if she enjoys a old sock with a knot in, thanks ><

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Zeus does the same with the coconut, he pushes it up against the skirting board and sometimes flips it in the air.
I've got him a boomer ball too but have stopped letting him play with it in the house, he goes mental, he once flipped it up in the air and jumped up towards it.. it went flying into my beautiful 42 inch lcd tv.. saying that I wasn't happy is an understatement! He's only allowed to play with it outside or in the park now.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Katy will destroy anything. We bought her a grown up dog toy the other week with the name 'ruff & tuff' lasted her 1 day She loves to pluck the stuffing out of things, but doesn't eat it. She also helps with the recycling, chasing plastic bottles around then crushing them! Her favourites at the mo are her stag bar & we just bought her a large cooked beef bone (how she has managed to get at the marrow half way down, must be a seriously long tounge)

I brought Zeus some of that supposedly 'Ruff & Tuff' stuff when he was like 4/5 months old, he went through it exactly like Katy, didn't even last a day. Ruff & Tuff my ar*e!

Someone suggested on here once socks tied up. We got an old football sock and stuffed it full of other socks and tied a knot in the end. Caley loved it and its really lasts.

Oh wow! How pleased I am to read all your posts and know that Brandie isn't the only one to chew through everything and anything I have bought her! A stag bar lasts about 3-4 days, I think I will try an old sheet with knots in it

I've still got it, so a month so far! Logan only likes toys sometimes. But tbh anything smaller wouldn't have stood a chance. I went through loads at the store and the large/medium ones would have been useless for my fella!
If you have a pets at home or something near you they'll have them there then you can physically see them.

Stagbars (I get the jumbo ones) and stuffed Kongs here mainly.
Goughnuts are supposed to be very good and whilst I've not got one yet, they're on my to buy list!

im guessing the coconut is safe for the dogs mainly because of the outside....would it harm them if they ate the coconut? cheers

When we first got Otis every toy we gave him was demolished! But we have found the kongs to be very good, stag bar is still going strong and a nyla bone (which is quite hard)... Nice to see what everyone else has tried. Hope you find something

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
My girl, Bunya, hasn't destroyed her large black Kong - yet! She eventually destroyed the medium one. What I have found that is cheap and tough is a used ten pin bowling ball. I got one from the op shop very cheap and she loves it! It's like the poor persons boomer ball!
It's a "sometimes" toy though, because she squeals so loud the whole time she is chasing it it makes my ears ring. With the three holes in it it's easy for her to pick up and carry around too. She has good neck muscles! Lol
Plastic bottles, cheap stuffed toys, so called tough dog toys, etc. all end up in little bits everywhere in a few minutes. It's like she thinks it's a contest to see how fast she can destroy them.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Densils new cosmos ball is still intact - he loves it because it is squashy. He has a boomer ball but it is now very rough around the edges where he has been grating it with his teeth. He also has a kong and a bento ball, which we use to stuff with treats and dinner. He has a goughnut and nylabones, but never touches them. I guess it is a matter of finding out which toys work and which don't as all dogs are different.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
This last week i have bought Louby, a large stag bar, a 6 inch boomer ball (but im getting her a bigger one as she has managed to pick the 6 inch up a couple of times, im worried about her teeth), and we also bought a kong wobble, the hard plastic one...around £25 (another £8-10 if we get a bigger ball) altogether but im hopeful that they will last her a while to so should be worth it.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
I have never found a toy that lasts ! what I do is get the toys out... ropes balls etc , let them have a play time and then put them back away. I never leave them alone with a toy for safetys sake, and the toys last longer if they don't have them all the time. Dog tennis balls are hopeless, the first fetch results in a ruined ball, I find it more economical to get proper good quality balls, as they last much longer before being punctured, but again after fetch is over I put them away. I did try a float... the white round thing you find on the side of a boat, made of hard plastic and with stands shark bites. This does survive, but I had to take it away as I found one dog getting so obsessed over biting it she wore her canines down !

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
I do a similar thing to the egg boxes... I get the inner cardboard roll from a toilet roll, flatten it, fold one end, put biscuits in it then fold the other... then give it to the dogs... of course it doesn't last long but the dogs have great fun breaking into it and getting the biscuits out.

I read on this forums about using an old pair of jeans, I did this I cut the legs off and binned the bum n zip bit, tied one leg in a knot n this has lasted 2 months it doesn't even have any rips in it, he just seems to sit for ages trying to undo the knot, it's so funny, although he's getting pretty good at it now,

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
I just bought Densil one of these
http://www.antlerdogchews.co.uk/Natural-Eco-Dog-Toys/crinkler-large-11-inch
plus a half fallow antler.
The crinkler is still intact - just, but a bit tatty. will try and post an "after" picture. He is certainly enjoying trying to destroy it.

Chuck it balls are excellent. Most other toys are either not interesting enough or get chewed to pieces.
Thanks for coconut tip. Well give it a go, definitely.

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
TBH any Kong toy will defeat a Staffies efforts to destroy it. My Mattie has 5 , a ball, a medium classic Kong which can be stuffed, a bone with holes at each end which can also be stuffed, her favourite is the Wobbler. It's unscrews and you can put treats in it with a hole where they fall out. My favourite because it's so good for her teeth in the Jumpin' Jack. My son brought it from the states the last time he was back. It can also be stuffed but is shaped so the teeth and gums get well cleaned. All of the above have NO signs of wear. So, Kong rules for me. Here is the Jumpin' Jack

Re: "staffy proof" toys?
Kong and Nylabone are specifically made for strong chewers, I had an american friend who had 2 pitbulls and the only toy they couldn't get through were the biggest nylabones and Kong toys.
Tiger has a medium Nylabone for now seeing as she's still got her baby teeth and she adores it, if she's fidgeting she'll go straight for that bone to keep her occupied, she has a black kong rubber bone too but she hates the smell/taste of the rubber and won't go near it so
I'd definitely endorse Nylabone, the largest one at my pet shop is £19 but they're basically indestructible for strong chewers like pitties and staffies so they're worth the money when you don't have to replace toys every month
