Cold Empty Cold

Post by debtom Tue Jan 29 2013, 16:00

Hi everyone, I have a quick question. We took Caley out yesterday for a long walk and she happily played in the puddles and mud - even dunking her head right in the puddles (which I tried to stop). We got her home where she had a warm shower and we dried her off.

This morning however she is making grunting and snorting noises and on occasions it looked like she was going to be sick Sad , but wasn't. She seems snuffly on occasions too. She is still eating and playing but she keeps having these little episodes of grunting/snorting and gulping, they last no more than a couple of mins and has only and one or two every hour, if I stroke her she stops as well. I had a quick look on internet and read something about reverse sneezing, which seems to match what she is doing. Has anyone heard of this? Or could it be she has a slight cold and if so, should I just keep her in doors for a while.

Thanks

It does sound like reverse sneezing, which can be brought on by several different things. This seems a good article about it...

It really does sound like it. The only thing that makes me think she has a cold as well is that she is generally snuffly, although there is no discharge from nose or anything, just snuffly. My OH said she is not gulping as much just sounds snuffly on and off. Poor thing, it sounds horrible, but she is still playing and eating so I guess I can only keep an eye on her for now.

I have a habit of running to the vet for the slightest thing which is costing me a fortunte, I will keep an eye on her for now and see how she goes. Thanks Caryll.

Don't forget that dogs can't catch the common cold. They can get several upper respiratory infections which are often clumped together under Kennel Cough, but they can't get a cold!

Oh I didn't know that. She is not coughing or anything just snuffly/snorting.

Ohhhh, Loki does this sometimes. Should I take him to the vet about it? It's only like once or twice and then goes away for a few days. Sorry I can't help about Caley, but if she is sick, I hope she gets better soon Smile
