Harness?
At the minute izzy walks on a collar and lead. I'm very little and she pulls a bit and chokes herself. As well as this we both have sore legs (mine are very weak at times and she could pull me off my feet if I wasnt used to it) and I'm afraid that her pulling is causing unneccesary strain on her hind legs. Would a harness help her? And if so what type would be recommended?

Re: Harness?
A harness will not stop the pulling you need to train the dog out of it. Would a canny collar be any help

Re: Harness?
We had the same problem with tyke as im only small it was a problem so we bought a cosydog harness, it doesnt have any specific training or to stop pulling, but its very durable, comfy for tyke to wear, good quality and you can just throw it in the washer. we have had for three years or so and he has grown into it. Alot will have to be training on your part but i feel like i have more support when walking on a harness, better chance of catching when of the lead in an emergency and of course i dont feel like im causing tyke any harm to his throat. people said the same to me about it will make him stronger in his chest but i do not think it has.

Re: Harness?
We use a harness and lead. The harness is the primary device but we will swith to the collar if we need to control her head. Here's a link to the harness we use. It's easy to put on and really helps with the pulling.

Re: Harness?
When I first got Moo my mum would walk her on harness as she felt more in control. I just had a basic padded one from p@h

Re: Harness?
I'm just in the process of getting Floyd a 'perfect fit' harness from dog games (easy to find on Google) add so many people have recommended then to me, especially for their customer service.
The perfect fit has an additional D-ring on the front which turns the dog to the side when it pulls. Better than anything which manipulates the dog's face IMO.
Without engaging the D-ring you just have an awesome padded harness we'll be using it for running and flyball.

Re: Harness?
Its really easy to train your Staffy to walk to heel.
I'll try to explain how i've done it with my last 6 or 7 babies. Hope this is easy to understand.
What you need is a length of string / washing line that kind of thing(not rope) about 1.5 mtrs long and a pocket full of your dog's favorite treats.
When walking your dog on the lead the ring on the collar will be at the back of the neck behind the ears. Tie the string to the collar on the opposite side so it trails from the underside of the neck onto the floor.
Let the string trail on the floor while walking and when your dog pulls beyond where you wish him to be just step on the string and use your command word (heel. close etc) followed by a tasty treat. Stepping on the string will stop your dog in its tracks and he will soon learn to walk to heel (couple of days). I have done this with several Staffys and it works a treat without causing any harm.
Hope this works for you.
