Hi guys,

Just got myself a new puppy, also my first post for quite sometime. My new little one is called Sky, 10 week old female. The person I got the pup from has been feeding her Butchers puppy food (Tinned) topped with a sprinkle of Peigree chicken and rice kibble.

At the moment she is being fed 4 times a day, 1/3 of a tin every time, with sprinkle of pedigree kibble. Just as the person before had fed her. However everytime I go in the kitchen she is straight to the food bowl, i'm sure she would just keep eating. I just find it a bit tricky to know how much to feed. Anybody got some good sites, or info. Bean a while since I've had to feed a pup :-). If I look at the back of the tins, I'd be broke according to there recommendations lol.

Many thanks

Brophy.

They are hungry hounds at that age.! Logan woulda ate non stop all day, and still wanted more! Laughing

I'm not totally familiar with the Butcher's range but if it's the one I'm thinking off I'd suggest if possible looking at gradually changing to a different brand (blue label?). Same applies to the Pedigree, it is made up of a lot of fillers.

When I got Logan I was given the food he was fed on and without beating around the bush, it was absolute rubbish.

You will find that on a higher quality food she will be a lot fuller after meals times. You will most likely see her behaviour improve a lot in general! Logan def seemed a lot more satisfied after he got a food that suited him best.

Have a look at that link and choose a food from that list. Pedigree really isn't a good food! My 2 are raw fed now, but I have a kibble fed dog who is doing well on Eden (only food in the UK to have a 5 star rating on whichdogfood.co.uk Wink ) and Wainwrights trays.

Eden is 80% meat and 20% fruit and veg and is grain free!

I wouldn't bother with puppy food. I'd just give them the adult stuff!

Yeah Blue label it is, just checked back Meat and animal derivatives min 50% of which 15% is fresh meat, chicken min 4%.

So crap basically! I'm not to keen on feeding dry foods, I just think about it the same as me I couldn't live on crackers all my life lol. I dont sprinkling it on the top.... Might have a look at Wainwrights, there pouches are a minimum of 45% meat which is a little better

A good quality dry food goes a long way. But I mix a bit of meat in with it which I boil up, just because my boy is picky. Logan loves his veg too!

Just had a look at that website (which dog food), dam good. Thanks everyone. You are right those, mixing kibble with meat is always best. Think a trip to Pets at home is in order, girlfriend will like it as it's shopping!!! :-)

The only thing I'd add is that many on here feed raw, which is a great way to feed, but just not for me. If you are feeding raw and dry make sure to feed them separate as they take different lengths of times to digest.

Wet food is about 70% water, so you need to feed more of it than dry food! I like the Eden, as its made in the UK and from good ingredients. The people who make it have 18 dogs or something aswell lol Laughing

If I had my way she would be on raw the same as the 2 staffs.

Never thought of that... I think im going to get the trays, they score 5/5 on the website for good content. Mix that with some kibble from there too. Regarding the kibble if I get a tray of say chicken and rice, do i need to keep the kibble the same (i.e chicken and rice) so its not to many flavours?

I've read the Eden site and I agree it looks good stuff, I'd even eat that to be honest. however just a bit to expensive for me, the pup already has more toys than I have DVD's

No you can get different kibble. The thing with kibble is, usually the more expensive works out cheaper in the long run because you don't need to use as much as lower quality kibble! I got a 15kg bag of Eden in November and I still have about 4kg left!
