Introducing staffs
this topic may have been done before but i can't find it so apologies.
I'm finally due to introduce cass to my girlfriends staff this weekend, they have never met before. Cass is 8 months and Beau is 4 years old.
what or how do people suggest is best to do this? muzzle each dog? leave them to it? keep them on a lead and let them sniff??
i am a bit worried they wont get on?

Re: Introducing staffs
Meet on neutral ground, walk them together so they interact on neutral territory, take lots of treats.
Take it slow.

Re: Introducing staffs
I have recently done this myself with my girlfriend's Stafford. Hers is 4 years old and very placid/calm. Logan is just over 1 and as mad as they come but very friendly.
The way I did it was to organise a walk in a nice quiet area. She was already there and when I arrived I walked towards her both dogs on leads and continued walking together and made no real fuss about the meeting. I let Logan/Izzy walk beside each other and they sniffed each other as they walked. I let each dogs sniff around were the other one went to pee too.
The idea was that if she came to my house it would be Logan's territory and vice versa and could have possibly created problems. So find somewhere nice and quiet and neutral ground to each dog.
I wouldn't muzzle either dog unless it was very necessary. If they are on leads they should be easily kept under control. Also, don't make a fuss about the meeting to the dogs as it will create excitement.
For the first few times I met with my GF both dogs were on leads just to be safe but as time progresses we are giving them more and more time and space together. Above all else take it slowly and calmy and there will be no major issues.

Re: Introducing staffs
Great advice from Mat above, just what I would do . If people keep calm then usually dogs do too.

Great effort, one day soon ( I hope ) the wife will let me have two dogs also
Just to add, when walking towards your gf while doggies are there walk at a slight angle so the dogs don't get to square up to each other and although food sometimes helps I would avoid treats for the first meet in case they are or turn food possessive. I know mine would go nuts at the thought of sharing her food with other dogs
Let us know how you get on
