Kong filling - not fatty? Empty Kong filling - not fatty?

Post by Lizzie Sat Jan 19 2013, 19:51

Due to the snow we haven't been able to get out and about as much as usual and I would like to stuff a couple of Kongs for Harry to help with boredom. Thing is he doesn't tolerate fatty stuff very well so I cant use peanut butter or cream cheese or pate etc. Anyone have any ideas what I can mix with some kibble in his Kong and then freeze please as I'm stumped?

Yoghurt frozen in the freezer so it takes him longer? Frozen carrots?

You could try putting in some of his regular food - works for wet and dry. Blended fruit and veg can work as well, though it works better if you leave out the watery stuff like cucumber, tomatoes, etc.

Although it can be messy, you can also cook some rice, drain it and leave it to cool. It clumps together and could be used as a filling. You could also try tinned pumpkin (no additives).

We've frozen kongs with water, put bits of apple and carrot in them.. blitzed up like a puree... great for the summertime.. but good all year round

You could puree some sweet potato, cabbage and carots along with some of the normal dry food

Just put his regular kibble in there and freeze it, you could just use a tiny amount of peanut better to plug the end to stop it all falling out.

I over boil broccoli and mash it up with a bit of ham, these are his two favourite things. Then freeze it. He gets an hour or so of entertainment out of it.
