Change Of Pace For Logan - Training Leads
I read someone on the forum talking about "training leads" a few days back and thought I'd give it a go. Logan is always on the lead these days because even though he is good with most dogs he doesn't like Alsatians/Huskys etc from a few bad experiences. There are a lot of irresponsible dog owners where I live/walk so I keep him on the lead to avoid drama.
I had a feeling he wasn't getting much time to explore and run/play since he was off lead as a puppy and was maybe why he misbehaves at times.
I got a 20ft lead online to try. That way he could explore/play and I didn't havta get filthy following him everywhere! It was a total success and I'd never seen him have so much fun. He was filthy and soaking wet but his eyes were so bright and satisfied that he slept from 6pm until 6am this morning when I got up for work.
I will bring it with me everywhere now and when I'm in the right area I can let him have fun. Anyone having similar issue should def try it! It was very cheap and rolled up into my jacket pocket so it's easy enough to carry around.
I couldn't get any photos when I was out because it was pouring with rain but here is a shot of him as soon as we got home.
Excuse the dodgy phone camera photo.

Glad it worked so well for you. We use a 40 or 50 foot lead so she can have even more freedom

I'll maybe work towards that. I dunno if I'd be confident enough yet

Well done for giving it a go. Glad to hear Logan is having more fun now with the long line, you will notice that his recall may well improve too as this can be practiced while he is on the line.
It's a great way for him to tire himself out too, having a good run about and you can stay in control and reel him in if need be. We always use the long line with Rocky on long walks because of the same reasons you use it - irresponsible owners letting dogs run up to him and recall still not 100% despite constantly calling him.

When Loki's recall slipped because he turned into an annoying, scent-loving lunatic teenager, I bought him a training line too, and it was great seeing how happy he was. Glad Logan had a good run around and was obviously tired from all the excitement
