Logan's Best Day Ever
Great to see you all had lovely sunny weather yesterday and there have been plenty of topics showing it off well.
It was lovely with us too so I went for a walk with a few friends then stopped off at another friends house and had a few drinks in the sun.
Firstly, Logan hasn't been around so many people before and I was a bit concerned if he'd be ok with it but he was great. After his walk and play etc he was quite happy to just sit on the grass with me.
My friends house is right beside a park and once we sat down a squad of young kids came over to ask could they play with Logan. He has been around 1 child at a time before and has been great but never 10+ kids all screaming running etc, but because he was being good (and I was enjoying myself) I let them play with him.
I was totally blown away by how good he was! They were all play fighting with him, chasing him/running away, he'd even give them the ball when asked and would sit until they threw it. They were all very young kids so it was great to see.
One little 6 year old took a real shine to him and asked me could he take him for a walk. Again because he was good I let him, he just walked about the field with him but was so good (I could see the whole time and nothing bad could have happened).
It was the most fun he ever had I think, however today he is shattered so I don't know if I'll even walk him at all to give him a break.
Forgot my camera but got these two pics on my phone

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
Def, I've never really saw it in him, normally I'd be holding the lead etc. But when he's good and calm etc I don't mind others doing it.
The only thing is he's shattered today bless him, he played with them for ages. Gonna give him a really handy day at home today I think. Extra food too!

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
Yea think so too, probably just me being over the top, and days like that don't happen often. But i'll give him a good high protein feed when I get home and he had one this morning too.

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
We are trying to squeeze as many days like that in as possible before the weather gets too hot.

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
Yea that's a good point, over here we'd maybe only get 4 or 5 days like that throughout the year.

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
We have 8 or 9 months of pretty good weather or at least a few hours or so of it during the day. It's almost rainy seaon here though and than it will be too hot for a couple of months

Thanks Mandy, I was always promised that one day training and patience would just click and a few weeks ago it just did for him. The puppy madness has left him (mostly) and he's so easy to handle now

Was a great day Sarah. Don't think it would be good too often though because it took a lot out of him. He was really having a great time though

Wow, Logan's a real credit to the breed I do really wish Loki would calm down with kids more, but we seemed to have a bit of progress yesterday. I'd love it if Loki could be like you described Logan as being with those kids though! So glad he had such a lovely time, and it definitely sounds like you're full of pride for him great pics too, he's looking brilliant as always.

Genuinely Tara remember how young Loki is though. Logan is about 16 months now and it's only been a few weeks of really good behaviour, maybe just over a month actually. Before that he was good but I always had to keep an eye on him because he had a tendancy to get over excited.
It just clicked with him one day, literally. I'm fairly certain it will be the same for you.
When Logan was Loki's age I wouldn't have been able to let him play with kids etc because he'd knock them down by accident etc.

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
That's brilliant news Mat, he looks really happy
Milton loves kids too, we were in the pet department of the local garden centre last week and a little girl came and asked if she could stroke him. I said yes, she crouched down and started stroking him and he very gently put his head on her lap and closed his eyes, he loved it It's funny to see how gentle he is with tiny people compared to how roughly he plays with me.

Thanks Chris.
I know exactly what you mean. I play fight with Logan too and it is pretty rough tbh but he is very respectful to kids etc.

Thanks, Mat, that's given me a lot of hope he has made loads of progress the last few months, but hoping it continues. You should be very proud of Logan though, and of yourself of course

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
Thanks Lisa, he was shattered bless him. I felt a bit bad for him because he was exhausted. But he had a full bowl of water at all times and I kept him wet to cool him. Then made him take wee breaks too.
It's hard to stop them when they are having fun and being good though.

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
So pleased to read of Logans fun playing with the local children, I think he has a natural affinity with them by the looks of it, bless him he was such a good boy and has deserved a days rest I think.

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
Thanks Kathy, I think you are right. I watched him the entire time incase there were dogs about etc, but I never corrected him at all.
I just told the wee boy if he was pulling on the lead to just set it down and call me, but he just stood beside them like the photo the whole time.
My Mum text me to say he has slept all day pretty much, so I'm gonna bring him home, fill the baby bath for him and let him sit in the shade while I spend more time sitting in the sun

By the way I was wondering where you got your flirt pole from? I can't find any in the UK and the ones from America you have to pay $50 dollars just for postage and packege

Re: Logan's Best Day Ever
Thanks Norma, tbf to him I think it is just in him to be this way. I didn't really do anything.
I made mine Joe, it's the easiest thing in the world to do and doesn't cost much, I had the stuff so it didn't cost anything. I'm on my phone atm but when I go on to the laptop I'll upload pics onto here to show how. Just check back on this topic later on this evening.

Here ya are fella. All you need is a bit of pvc pipe. You might have it in the garage or you can buy a bit from B&Q for a couple of quid, and a bit of thick rope. I used a bit of tow rope for a car, again a couple of quid tops.
Basically, thread the rope through the pipe like this.
Then, tie a knot at the end so it can't get through like this.
Read this too. It's important to only do it for a few minutes at a time and for 10-15 mins in total. It really doesn't take much of this to totally burn them out.
•We recommend briefly walking your dog both before and after using a flirt pole to help prevent muscle strains.
•The Flirt Pole is a powerful tool and should be used responsibly. Never use it for extended periods of time without letting your dog take breaks and drink water.
•Causing any dog to jump can be hazardous; especially dogs under one year of age, whose bones are still growing.
•Never use a flirt pole with dogs who have joint and/or hip problems.
•We highly recommend only using the Flirt Pole outdoors on a grass or earth surface.
•Wearing closed toe shoes is recommended if your dog has a tendency to run over your feet, with claws digging in, like ours do.
•Do not release your grip when your dog catches the lure. Letting go while the bungee cord is stretched can result in the pole section flying towards your dog at a high rate of speed.
•Never attach a hard or heavy lure to the bungee cord. If your dog releases it with the cord stretched, you will have a dangerous projectile flying towards you.
•The Flirt Pole is not designed to be used as a tug toy.
•Never let your dog play with the Flirt Pole unsupervised. It will not survive as a chew toy. Always put it away after use.
•Do not allow your dog to chew on the bungee cord. Check cord frequently for damage and discontinue use if damage is found.
•For best results, also use the Flirt Pole as a training tool. Train your dog to sit, lie down, and wait to go after the lure until you give the command to do so.
•Let your dog briefly catch the lure every few minutes and give them praise when they catch it, but then make them release the lure and start over.
