Hi, new staffie x mummy
Hi, I've just got a little staffie x girl called ruby, she's 12 weeks and we've had her a week. When we got her she didn't have a clue how to be a dog, she hadn't been allowed on the floor or given anything to chew on and she had been fed on super cheap adult dry dog food. I don't think she could bite it properly as when I got her I could see her ribs and her fur was dry and falling out, they hadn't bothered giving her any vet care or worming ect. In the week I've had her she's gained a kg now that she's on orijen dry food that I rehydrate slightly for her, her coat is lovely and shiny and she has learnt to play with my other dogs, Sam who is a 12 year old border collie is trying to teach her doggie manners and she plays wonderfully with my 8 week old jack Russell x chihuahua, she's doing great with toilet training and has learnt some commands. The only think that worries me is that she cries constantly if she's not on your lap. The woman who had her before had no idea about dogs and babied her completely, she wasn't allowed to run round on the floor and was carried and cuddled all day. I don't think that's healthy for a dog so I've limited her cuddle time but when she gets tired she can't seem to wind down without it, she starts biting my older dog and jumping up at the window constantly while crying, she gets very stressed out and seems very confused, as soon as you call her over for a cuddle she crashes out asleep for an hour or two. Does anyone have any advice for me? Many thanks

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. I think she is still settling and it's natural for them to seek attention. Try getting her used to not being pampered a little bit at a time and it should work out.

Thanks I meant to mention it to the vet when she had her jabs and things but totally forgot. Buddy our jack x chi is so happy go lucky and I was worried about Ruby's stress levels. She's a beautiful little thing and I'm glad she loves a cuddle (that's one reason I got a staffie lol) I just want to make sure we're doing right by her

Welcome to you and Ruby - she looks like gorgeous little thing and given the chance I would cuddle her all day too!
She's obviously a needy little girl at the moment and still settling in so she needs a little time. Don't ever let her doubt your love for her, just let her get acclimatised to being on the floor for a bit - give her things to play with etc. She'll get there by patient stages, and your other dogs will help a lot with this.

That's what I was concerned about, I want her to feel secure and loved but not pander to her too much...just a bit worried about getting the right balance. She's so eager to please I'm sure she'll soon realise the floor is still a safe place to sleep, though as you can see from my picture she does like sleeping on my giant slipper with buddy I also came in from making a cup of tea earlier and found her asleep in the cats radiator bed, I think it comforts her when its warm. I'm her third owner in her very short life so I'm not sure when she was taken from her mum, I'm sure she still misses her as she sucks on my hair if she gets the chance. She was an unwanted Xmas present, poor little mite

Re: Hi, new staffie x mummy
Welcome. Sounds like you have a good handle on it! Whew though! Two pups can be a challenge (did that once before). Staffs do like their comforts more than any other breed I've had. She looks like she found a good home.

Hi & welcome to the forum ><
Sounds like your doing great.
Staffs do like their cuddles, probably more than most breeds

Re: Hi, new staffie x mummy
Welcome. I tip my hat to you for taking on two young pups! Don't worry too much about the need for constant attention, she is just adjusting and probably overwhelmed with having a good home!
For the first few weeks I had Logan he cried the house down unless he got to sleep on my chest. He grew out of it as he got used to the house etc.

Re: Hi, new staffie x mummy
Welcome I wouldn't worry so much, Staffs are clingy. That plus her settling in and her past has made her that way, but she'll get more used to doing other things.
