Two Men Arrested After Dog Pushed Off Pier Drowns

Police have arrested two men after a pet dog drowned when it was pushed from a pier into the sea.

Lifeguards attempted to save a young Staffordshire terrier after it was shoved into the North Sea by two men at Cullercoats, North Tyneside, just before Christmas.

The animal is believed to have suffered a heart attack triggered by the shock and drowned despite attempts to rescue it.

Two men aged 25 and 51 were arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty by Northumbria Police following the incident at midday on December 23.

A spokesman for Cullercoats RNLI said:"It was one of the most horrific things I have ever seen and that includes rescues involving human beings.

"Two of the lads tried to give it rescue breaths, but it's obviously totally different on a dog.

"They went into the water up to their chests to try and get the animal."

He said the incident at the beach's North Pier was witnessed by several families and young children who had been enjoying a walk along the beach with their own dogs.

So sad, twisted individuals and I wish it would carry a stronger sentence.

Oh how terrible. It won't bring this poor dog back - God rest his soul - but I'm glad to hear that men were arrested and I hope they get properly punished. I also hope it wasn't someone's elses pet dog they did this to.

10 minutes in a room with a few fellow staffy owners I know would be 10% of the punishment they should get

If karma don't kick there arses I know people who will with me included, more oxygen theifs that need removing from this earth.

Lets just hope on this freezing cold day somebody takes them for an impromptu walk into the sea off a high drop B******S
