Advice Needed Please !
Louie is 5 years old and extremely healthy and very fit. Over the last 3 weeks he seems to be cleaning himself 24/7, no particular area of his body, but every opportunity he has, he is licking either himself or the family..... and very very loudly.
Any thoughts appreciated ?
Dave
p.s. apologies, but very new to forums!!

Re: Advice Needed Please !
This can be caused by many different things.
Has anything changed in your dogs routine?
Have you given your dog flea treatment lately
If nothing has changed much I would make a trip to the vets

Re: Advice Needed Please !
we thought it may be a behavioural thing....we are moving house in 6 weeks and the packing has begun.... quite possibly the cause.
Thanks for the replies.... we will watch him closely.

Have you been spending less time with him......I only ask as it is known that boredom can bea cause of excessive cleaning

Re: Advice Needed Please !
Ive probably spent more time to be honest. We have just noticed he appears to have really chapped jowls ... the skin seems really dry, just like really chapped lips.

Re: Advice Needed Please !
Is he white?
We had to put sudocreme on Molly's white parts to help with the dry chapped skin.
The licking sounds like a reaction to the packing and changes happening within the house.

Re: Advice Needed Please !
Excessive grooming is often down to anxiety - the change of house could well have affected him. get some herbal calming tablets/liquid and see if it helps. If not, take a trip to the vet to rule out skin problems.

Re: Advice Needed Please !
Just a thought - if his jowls are dry he could be lacking essential oils. Try adding a teaspoon of cod liver oil to his food a couple of times a week.

Thanks... he is actually a big fish eater. We gave him some Bepanthem cream last night ( no sudacreme, but a similar product ) ... and it has definitely made a difference.
Thanks again to everyone !
