Cooling off
Hi All! We are currently having a heatwave here where i live in Australia, in fact most of Oz is copping it, the temp today topped out at 38* (100*F) today. So im just after some ideas to help keep Jabba cool during the day. He has plenty of water & shade. I was thinking about freezing some treats in a container for him for tomz & he has a clam shell with some water in it.
What other things can i do for him? He will be getting a trip to the beach this arvo too!

Re: Cooling off
Is he outside? Mine don't do well outside in that too long. Perhaps nice kiddie pool for him to lay in some nice cool water. Mine go batty for it.

Re: Cooling off
Yeah he is outside, its cooler than being inside even on a day like this. He has a little half shell/pool thing but i think he drinks it rather than plays in it.

Re: Cooling off
Just having it available is good. I've seen some cooling collars or a nice cold wet bandana to just put on him to keep him cooled down. You could also hose him down in the mid afternoon and let him air dry b

Re: Cooling off
Hey it is definately a scorcher here today, I'm in Sydney 42 here at the moment.. Steff also has the half shell, she lays in hers and plays she loves it.. Just keep filling it up as the water gets rather warm in them quickly.. I make Steff Ice blocks with old chinese containers filled with water and treats (sardines or chicken) freeze them and give them to her in a shady spot in the yard.. Keeps her amused and cool Make sure he has plenty of shade to lay in and try not to play with him.. Keep an eye out for heat stroke,

Another thing I do (not sure what kind of water restrictions you are on in Kempsey) but a sprinkler in the yard gets the from Steffi

Yeah I reckon Mel It's shocking hey.. I'm at work but Steff is at home with AC on and my son takes her out for wee breaks and a play with the hose or on the trampoline
He has invented way to keep them both cool by putting the sprinkler under the trampoline They both lay on the trampoline and the water comes up from underneath Smart kid!!

Not too far from Kylie, 41 for us today! Fortunately we've been inside with the air con! Zoey's not too fussed on the water thing, runs a mile when the hose or watering can comes out, but she loves a brisket bone straight from the freezer on a hot day.

Re: Cooling off
No real big fires up here, there was a small one at Hat Head that burnt out some National Park on the weekend but thats about it. We had a really big one a couple of months ago up river that burnt for a few weeks & cleared out a few thousand hectares of bush

Re: Cooling off
.. I do actually feel for you guys in those temps despite most brits always moaning about the weather
I like our seasons TBH , by the time summer is done (not a long season this ) i'm lookin forward to autumn/winter, cold walks being cosey in doors etc, then after a couple months I'm lookin forward to the spring when everything comes alive and to feel a bit of sun on me
The last time we went abroad it was 43c every day for two weeks , which was nice for a hol .. but I have never been so glad to feel the cool moist air gettin off the plane back in blighty, and lush green feilds everywhere on the way home

theres a cool change on the way so hopefully its cooler tomz. Took Jabba to the beach after work, he loved it! he ran in & out of the surf for an hour. only downside was the 40 knot wind that was blowing out there!
