Glimmer of hope! Empty Glimmer of hope!

Post by Guest Sat Dec 29 2012, 23:42

So today I found a website that I can register on and I have enquired to them about being an auxiliary nurse. I never knew what one was until today and although it isn't something I wanted to be doing it seems better than where I am now. Hours are similar to here but little bit less (12 day shift and night and im 13hr day and 12hr night) at once and you get breaks which I don't.

At least it would be a Change and I've always wanted to work in a hospital and play dr.

It would give me a job until I found something I really wanted at least, cause I'm just in a rut here and don't want to go full hours cause I know how stressful it is here. I hope it would be less so in the hospital! But I thi k I need to make an attempt at it anyway, broaden my horizons and all that.

So fingers crossed x

There's also chances to change from elderly to maternity etcetc whereas here there's not much job progression. Even if I don't get anywhere right now I know to look out for it! I've been here 7 years and have all the training an mca would need so I am basically experianced and all ready to go!

Good luck Hayley - go for it! I always had a yen for nursing as well, but my lifelong bad back put an end to that, although I understand things are different now.

There WILL be stress - not always of course but it will be inevitable where sick people are concerned. But I feel confident that you could handle it.

Once again Good Luck and let us know how you get on.

Go for it Hayley, it sounds to me that you are not valued where you are currently working anyway. It's always easier to find a job when you are in a job at least that's what I have always found.

This could well be the opportunity you have been looking for, wishing you all the best. Would your current employer give you a reference for this position??

Sorry Hayley hope you are never my nurse, a nurse is a caring profession where they love and care what they are doing and want to do it not just a fill in job. No offence to you xx

In an ideal world Yesyes every nurse would be loving and caring but the wards would be very empty of nurses if they only recruited Mother Teresa.

(and nothing Hayley has ever said has led me to think that she is not loving and caring)

But that is what is wrong with our national health service today, people just taking the jobs, just because.

Nurses these days are an embarrassment compared to years ago, when you became a nurse cause it was you life's ambition x

I feel pretty sure that the people recruiting nurses can weed out those applying for the job just because. And Hayley DID say albeit in a light-hearted way that she always wanted to work in a hospital.

I have come across nurses in the past few years who were wonderfully caring in circumastances that would try the patience of a saint.

And more than 50 years ago I also came across nurses who were very much less than loving and caring.

Hayley will do a great job I am confident.

I am sure Hayley will be fine although I have never met her and I have only just joined the forum.

It is just years ago, it used to be something that you always wanted to do. You wanted to look after and help the sick, not just because.

My mum and dad have been in hospital in the last 2 to 7 years and were treated abysmal, the nurses could not speak English , had no idea how to treat people had no manners and in circumstances were very rude, obviously not in love with being a nurse xx

We should be thankful that someone caring and who has done a similar job would want to a nurse, whether it's a life long ambition or not at least she will be a lot better then alot of the ones we have at the minute!

Jobs aren't like they used to be, you are lucky to have one never mind a good one, so what's wrong with Hayley wanting a better job that is more suited to her?

Ella
Nothing, we all take what we can bet these days, and that is the problem.

You must know what it is like going to the doctors is you can, dentists, if you can, and if you are good or very sick make it to the hospital, when you are there you need caring for, these days you are not , full stop.

This thread was never meant to be about saying Hayley was not nice, just about the state of things in the NHS and beyond.

Hope she does get the job, although I do not know her.

I hope you can see it from my point of view

Who are you to say i am not caring? I have been looking for a job for months and got excited about this because i want to be a good person and work in a caring environment because i KNOW how horrible some nurses are, i like to think i would be very nice to them! but i also need a bloody job and at the end of the day i don't want to be doing this for the rest of my life but i would rather be a nurse than work in a chip shop! Don't be so rude to people you don't even know.

So it's someone who looks after the elderly? If so, it's what my auntie does, she's been doing it for years. It was never her ideal job, it was just what she could get, but she's caring and does her best. And she said the worst part about her job are a couple of the people she works with, rather than the people she helps Laughing go for it Hayley. I think it doesn't matter whether it's a stepping stone to where you want to be, or your dream job. What matters is that you're willing to be professional about whatever it is you're doing. That in itself is the level of commitment needed, not just whether or not it's your lifelong dream.

Please don't judge people for wanting to work.

The job centres are full of layabouts who never want to do a days work in their lives. Whether it's a lifelong ambition, or just a way to keep the money coming in doesn't matter as long as the job is done properly & with compassion.

It's not necessarily elderly but its basicslly the one who helps people stay hygenic and dignified and helps them eat wash and dress and keeps and eye on them Smile it sounds lovely it really does.
