shoulder pain????
my staff is 3 years old over the last few months she has had something wrong. she is fine one min then the next she screams and lets a foul smell off and for a while i thought it was anal glands but vet said no! anyways as time has gone on she does this screaming now and again she can just be stood there not doing anything and all off a sudden its as if someone has stood on her! i noticed last time she held up her front left leg! but on examination no area was sensitive or hot to touch! she keeps doing it and ends up sat in the bathroom trembeling like a leaf!! the vets gave me rheumocam to give to her thinking its muscular but it has made no difference! i just wondered if any1 had any ideas??? its horrid im gonna make a app monday to see the vet again!
sorry if my spelling is rubbish! lol x

Re: shoulder pain????
Best to have a thorough check up at the vet, I'm sure they would pick up on anything underlying. Sending big hugs your way >< ><

Re: shoulder pain????
The vet didnt really say alot tbh! Its hard resting a dog whos so full of energy and she gotta go dwn steps to go to the garden! Ive just read that they can let off a smell from the anal glads wen they r scared etc so that explains that, but i dont really like the thought of her on meds! Its so strange she only does it a couple of times then she wont do it for months!! x

Re: shoulder pain????
They said that it could b Bicipital tenosynoitis or poss secondary to chronic joint disease! need to take her to my reg vet 2mro for xray its more than likely that she will have to be seen by a orthopaedic specialist to have it probed and stuff! But she is very very poorly shes on loxicom and tramadol she had a pain blocker administered at the vets so helped her for a fewhours now its worn off shes whimpering and really miserable hid away x

Poor girl, its horrible when you cant explain to them whats wrong. Hopefully it starts to improve soon or they at least find out whats causing it. My first stafford came from Bristol did yours? whats her breeding?

Re: shoulder pain????
Just seen this, as I have been offline for 2 weeks due to being busy over Christmas. Have you read my thread, Pixees limp worse, as the vet did wonder if Pixee had bicipital tenosynovitis too. Have enclosed the link for you to read https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t27500-pixee-limps-worse. I have to say since the rest, and cutting out all rough play that puts any kind of pressure around the shoulder area, has really helped. So far so good, and she is back to her normal walks too, and still doing great. As to the smell, Pixee does get this when she is kind of scared about something. Hope reading my thread helps, although Zuki sounds in much more pain ?

Re: shoulder pain????
Shes been to the vets twice last week and yeah they diagonsed her with tendon injury after 5 xray slides and pulling her around for a day! So now 2 weeks complete rest and to be dosed up on loxicom and tramadol and then physio or hydro therapy, seeming much better tho thank god!!!

Glad you found out what it is. I'm late into this thread but would have suggested that because it sounds like how I was when I buggered my own tendons.

Re: shoulder pain????
Can you afford to get a second opinion? Or have the x-rays sent to a specialist, they will help but again its pricey Xx

Re: shoulder pain????
MRI scan your talking about £800+, hydrotherapy is done as a class, £10 +
I would ask the vets about a specialist, I found one that would look at the x-rays and talk me through it before costs.

Re: shoulder pain????
Hi sorry not replied took ages to get bk on here! Zuni is now been referred to animal hospital she has been in awful pain
Yesterday I took her to Langford Animal hospital, they thought that she had a slipped disk in her neck and have given her a CT scan and has shown nothing so now having an MRI today and if they still don't see nothing they are then going to draw fluid off the spinal cord! And the BEEP BEEP BEEP INSURANCE COMANY R NOT PAYING! They were hoping to see something on the CT that would be a cheaper option so that they could also treat her to but seems to be now that its purely to diagnose her! Feeling really deflated and want my baby home now!

Re: shoulder pain????
Ok we have diagnosis it is CHIARI MALFORMATION SYRINGOMYELIA!! Basically her brain is forming too much fluid and is pushing it down into the spinal cord which is causing her pain and discomfort! The treatment will either be drugs or surgery! Im glad to know what it is but petrified of a possible outcome
