Lily has a poorly paw Empty Lily has a poorly paw

Post by Guest Fri Dec 28 2012, 18:45

Lily has been to the Vets today with a poorly back paw. She went out with my son running on the bike on Christmas Eve and caught her back paw in the top of her second toe leaving a flap of skin. I cleaned it and it has been ok until she got up today. She collapsed on bedroom floor and couldn't put any weight on it. She wouldn't eat, drink or go for a wee. Her ears were hot and the paw all swollen and hot, rushed her to the Vets where they gave her antibiotics and Metacam. Chose to give her an antibiotic injection rather than pills as she couldn't deal with pill trauma ( can't believe extra £60 for jab!) She is now resting, has been traumatic to see her so weak. found out she is 27kg and needs to lose 7kg! So sad to see my girl felled like a tree. With Staffords having such skinny back legs she can't support her weight and is so sad Sad

Nasty when paws get cut miley had a similar one on her front paw (cut on glass) luckily we bandaged and bathed in antiseptic and it was fine. Hope she gets well soon Smile

When all is healed work on getting the extra weight off, Moo needed to loose nearly 5kg just over a month back after a month of resting, we're nearly there with a good diet and exercise Xx

Poor Lily, I hope she will soon be very much better. It's unfortunate that dogs' injuries get so infected but when you think of where their paws go it's no wonder. The jab will have helped her a lot faster than pills, so money well spent.

It's very worrying I know, but you did all the right things and I'm sure you will see improvement very soon.

Do let us know how she gets on.

Lily is a bit perkier today though she can't put her paw on the floor yet. I think she is going on a strict exercise regime when she is better. I think she has a slow metabolism as Lola is as skinny as a rake and is greedier than Lily!
