Do you smoke?

Just wondered how many people here smoke & what the reasons are for smoking/not smoking.

I'll start.

I've never smoked. All my family did, but for some reason I never wanted to. Plus none of my friends did (except my 2nd boyfriend who smelt like an ashtray sometimes!).

My oh's parents both died of lung cancer, of a type that is definitely caused by cigarettes.

i start around 14 year old and pack up a year ago i'm never going smoke again.

What made you stop?

im sorry to say i smoke about 25/30 aday

I do but wouldn't say I like it too much, its just a habit, a bad one, but a habit all the same. And yes when I'm stressed the first thing I do is have a fag! But again more habit than anything!

I first smoked at 10. Gave up 7 months ago and also I'm never going back. It's been the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
This may seem extreme but I quit cos my body was telling me I won't live much longer if I carried on.

My sister smoked from about the age of 14 till about 3 years ago. She only stopped because her oh was very ill & the smoke was amking him worse. He died last year, but I don't think she'll go back to smoking again.

I think once you have quit for an amount of time and you have broken most routines you know that there is no way you are gonna put yourself through that again.

He'd been ill on and off for a few years, poor guy. Shame cause he'd been such an active fella - a fireman in London till he retired.

I smoke but wouldnt say i like it either i have tried to quit but always struggle i am seriously thinking of quiting tried the tablets you can get they worked but then i started again i think the best way to do it is to go cold turkey. I started when i was 10 with all my mates didnt smoke much really till i was about 14 and i started proper.

I got an electronic cig. Cos I needed smoke in my lungs. Even though it doesn't taste the same. I think using some help does help but at the end of the day you have to want to do it. Keep trying Vikki, I tried to quit so many times, you can do it

It's funny how many people give up for health reasons, but perhaps don't really want to. I wonder if that's why some of them fail.

i only used the patchs for like 3 months and never look back

I don't know about you Steve but this time I knew I was gonna do it. Before I wanted to get healthier and have more money etc but the last time I truly believed it was quit or not live much longer.
Did you feel differently this time from all the other times you failed?

i think it was because i wanted to pack up this time the other time i wasn't really bothered doing it for other people.

I started smoking on my 18th had one in the pub, next day i was on 20 aday I smoked for about 4 years and gave it up a year ago but god was it heaven. I replaced food with cigerette and i lost 3 stone over the years which is why i stuck to it for so long. back when i was smoking my doctor said not to give up because it was helping my anxiety and temper and he didn't want me to fall back on bad habits. I gave up for Taz i know how nasty it is for them so when i decided to get a dog i gave up a few months before hand.

i do! only about 10 a day but its no excuse lol i gave up both times i was preggers though just like that! Went back to it both times though x

yes I smoke about 15 a day but would love to give up but have tried everything but nothing has worked. I think you deep down have to wat to give up then you will. I don't smoke in the house and have to go outside when a want one.

Yer, I think you really have to want to give up, and as bad as it sounds I don't want to! I dont smoke indoors either and jesus its cold out, but makes me smoke less!!

I started when I was about 11 and quit at the end of last year I have had the odd half though when drunk. I quit using Champix tablets although I didnt complete the whole 12 week course Oooopps! I quit for money rather than health but now I have quit I can see the benefits its amazing how much your taste and smell come back and I can now walk Ty without getting so out of breath I have Asthma so still get slightly out of breath but no were near as much.

exactly, except in the summer when i go through loads sitting in the garden with a glass of wine.

I smoke about 10 a day never in the house always outside, I don't think I am ready to give up yet and sad as it may sound I enjoy a cig.

I used to smoke about 10 a day.I did stop when i was about 21,but i do have a fag when i feel like one sometimes.Ive never been able to go back to smoking loads though.I go without smoking for months on end,then ill have a moment when i feel stressed,and i do turn to having a fag

Yep! I do too! Since I was 14,have quit a few times,sometimes for up to a year,but always end up smoking again!! Think it's because when I'm drunk I love a fag!! And then once I've had one or two I just end up buying some and it's to late! Mind you at my last medical at work a few months ago the nurse said "oh I can tell you don't smoke" to which I told her I do,and she said "oh! I dont like telling smokers they have good lung function but you have" she shouldnt have said that because now I feel I'm ok to smoke for a while longer!!

I smoke 10-15 a day, never in the house though

I used to smoke on and off (more socially really) for about 8 years. I quit in Novemeber. Went cold turkey. My o/h quit using the champix tabs at the same time too!

I have smoked when I started high school at 11 peer pressure until about 16 when I left school and just stopped so it was never a serious thing cause my parents would have killed me had they found out (sorry mum and dad) but I hate it now

You're not alone anymore, Caryll! I'm mostly stubborn.. They always say everyone try to smoke at least once.. and since I'm increadibly stubborn I thought "Oh, we'll see about that".. Besides I have enought bad habits as it is, and smokers smell so bad.

well thats me been stopped a week, using patches in so far no problems at all, ive smoked for 13yr or so but stopped for 10 month or so 6 years ago, only started again as staying abroad and 2euro a packet was just to good to turn down but its for good this time, only been on the rolled fags for the past year so its not so bad to stop ths time, also away to start takin Enzo out this weekend so should get a bit fitter aswell

Well Done mrt. Keep it up. I have never smoked. Never saw the appeal. It costs loads, bad for your health, affects the health of those around you and makes you stink. My husband smokes about 10 a day though, been trying to get him to quit for five and a half years!

i dont smoke that much 10 fags can last me 2days...

dont relly like it or need it just some thing i do at work...but can go all day with out having 1 easy...

I don't smoke on a regular basis but do normally have one or two if I am out drinking (which doesnt happen very often unfortunately lol)

I started at age 11 gave up at 17 for love ewww lol started again at 23, gave up again at 31 because i wanted another baby so now i have given up 10 years

I did the same thing and really like the E Cig (I use a JoyE510). It's helped me to cut down alot. I have tried so many times to quit, but I haven't had enough will power to over come it.
