another staffy
Cant find my last post about us getting another dog. In our local paper there is an article about rehoming staffys. The East Riding Mail published 12 pictures of dogs wanting homes. We just fell in love with copper, he was found in Hull straying and was picked up and kept in a cell while the rescue centre picked him up (hence the name copper). We have just come back from the rescue centre after seeing him. He is a little cracker and we have reserved him for pick up after xmas. We need to take miley a few times and hope they get on. They give out vouchers for him to be castrated injected and chipped so hopefully we will get him soon. He has kennel cough and is on antibiotics at present. We have named him Dylan.
Here is a link to his pic

Can admin add this rescue centre to the list please
Thanks

Re: another staffy
He is a very handsome lad, hope he gets on OK with your dog. Just try a walk on neutral ground to begin with and see how it goes, good luck. Don't forget we will need photographic evidence

Re: another staffy
we take miley on saturday morning to meet dylan. If they hit it off he could be with us before the new year hopefully a bit of doggie shopping to do though in the meantime and his castration op to book. Lots of questions will be popping up like how to walk 2 dogs together do you need a special lead? Do we let them eat sleep together stay together when we pop out? There is lots that need answering

Re: another staffy
Walking them is totally up to you, either seperate leads or a 'coupler' attached! I feed my 3 in the morning at the same time in the kitchen but just watch them so they dont try eating each others food Id say seperate them when you go out, all it takes is a little growl over a toy or something when your out and all hell breaks loose! I put Sierra in her crate when we go out, Bailey has the living room and we shut the doors and Meg has upstairs.
Coupler: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ancol-Nylon-Couple-30cm-20mm/dp/B002NAIN86/ref=pd_sxp_grid_i_0_0/279-3107215-4802551 could use something similar to that!

Re: another staffy
Ours sleep together when they want to, and if I pop out for 30 mins I put them both in the kitchen together but any longer and Tommy has the kitchen , Tilly the rest of the house , I've seen them fall out

Re: another staffy
Thanks for the advice and the link for the coupler we were planning on seperating them when were out but as a rule we dont leave Miley for more than 2 hours a day. I think the coupler would be easier for Wendy to walk them both when im at work so we will get that. Dylan will have the crate overnight and Miley will be in her bed in the kitchen. We will see how it goes

Re: another staffy
Just see how things go! Im sure (might be mistaken) but im sure Ella leaves Harvey and Chance together if she goes out and it works well for her! I dont know how strong the coupler's are, remember you may have 2 pulling staffs on it.

Re: another staffy
That's great news. I would keep them apart if you aren't around. A small disagreement can turn into a very bad fight.

The only problem I have found with a coupler is the incredible strain on your hand / arm if they both see something at the same time that they want to get to , especially as Tommy is fast turning into a very powerful beast and they have so much low down torque As a rule I walk them on separate leads these days , also helps if one is being naughty (they can remain captive whilst the other (or should I say Tilly ) runs free

Re: another staffy
He looks lovely and well done for rescueing him! I looked at a coupler for the Princesses and couldn't find one that looked strong enough. I use Halti training leads when I walk them together as they are soft and comfy in your hand when holding 2 leads in one hand

Re: another staffy
Just an update on Dylan. We went to introduce Miley to him this morning and had a walk with them together. They get on well. When we finished our walk ant took Dylan back to the centre they said we could take him home for the day. Got them both home and its been non stop playing and chaos since. Its weird Miley trying to hump Dylan and Dylan trying to hump Mileys head and her bedding. Its so funny. They get on great no fighting or snapping just play. The rescue centre says we may be able to bring him home for good in a couple of days. We hope so. Heres a few pics of them together. Its obvious that Dylan can only sit and has had no training at all. We will have to train him up to scratch like we have Miley
They are still at it now we have to take Dylan back to the centre at 4pm wonder if they will calm down by then?

Could you have a word with the rescue centre to see if you could pick him up a bit earlier than planned. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Re: another staffy
well they are calming down a little today Dylan still has a bit of kennel cough the centre have asked us to get some benylin cough medicine which ill do later they are both sleeping at the moment. Bit worried about Dylan he didnt seem to want a walk this morning and strangely when Wendy holds his lead he wont budge, just lays down. Were going to walk them seperately for a week see if Dylan will walk for Wendy as she will have them both when im working.

Even though you've got off to an epic start on the mates thing he will take some settling time. So what are the sleeping arrangements you have opted for
