Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Is it on a splitter or separate outputs from an aerial amplifier ??

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Is there an aerial cable from the outlet on the wall to the box ?? you could swap the 2 cables around

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Mate have retuned it about 100% in the past hour, why would it just go down fine last nite, not the box as I swapped them over, just not sure who I should call!

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
so you've swapped the aerial cables over to the 2 freeview boxes ?
You've swapped the 2 freeview boxes over and they both work upstairs ?? working one doesn't work downstairs then it has to be an aerial problem (assuming you have tried to retune ?) Do you rent , then I imagine it would be your landlords problem , if not then next step would be an aerial engineer to check your connections.
Sometimes like in my house the main aerial feeds a n amplifier for the signal and then the individual cables (for lounge ,. bedroom etc) would be plugged into that hence my question, if that was the case then the failure could be there ??

seems a bit strange that it just failed overnight , you sure you've checked the cables between the wall and the FV box

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
what you can do is find a tv shop and buy a long cable so you can plug it in your bedroom port till you can get someone in
Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
you any good with a screwdriver ?? you could take the aerial socket off the wall and see if the connections are ok, do you know how to put an aerial plug on (like what goes in the backl of the TV)janey wrote:

So you have the outer plastic (brown , black or white) then inside that you have a copper braid, then inside that normally a whit plastic tube and in the very centre a solid core.
Have a look at the socket itself , is there anything loose when you look from the outside (it may have broken and need replacing) then take the 2 screws out of the socket holding it to the wall , there will be a pin in the middle with a screw in , the centre solid core of the cable should be secure in there and not touching anything else, and the copper braid of the cable should be held securely by a clamp over it (this clamp will be on a bigger metal plate to make contact) most important are that the 2 are both connected and the outer and inner not touching , I will see if I can find you a pic online

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
back of aerial socket should look a bit like this
sorry I couldnt find a bigger picture
and the cable should look a bit like this
with the centre core showing as it connects in the middle pin on the back of the coax socket
If you can do the filter on the washing machine you can check this

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
if that all mess up too then it's your arial at top you need to get someone our or can you get up there?
Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
you've got a posh one , can't afford them has it got satellite and tv in one point ??
If your TV in the bedroom is wrong too it's either a need to retune or prob with the aerial, may be the freeview box in the bedroom is just better at getting a weaker signal than the one downstairs, I've had that before with some of the cheaper ones.
Normally you would get maybe the BBC channels and the 1 ITV and not get the rest if the signal is bad.
Can you get a full picture of the back of the box (a top view as you have it now)

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Good luck Janey - I can't help I'm afraid as I don't have Freeview, but I understand your frustration. I have gone through a similar thing for 4 WEEKS with Talktalk to get my broadband working reliably (if at all) and after loads of crap and inaction from them it turned out I needed an outside wire replacing and a new phone socket fitted, which BT did God bless them.
I wish you luck .....

So I neatened it up and bought a rug to hide it!

Nope I took the booster back, for some reason the arial point doesn't work in the lounge, very annoying!
Rather chuffed with myself!

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Hi Janey,
TV & Satellite systems are my trade, particularly communal systems (also known as IRS or MDU systems)
My guess would be that the port that your living room is connected to is fed by a separate multi switch on the buildings main system & that switch has failed.
Have you tried knocking on any of your neighbour's doors to see if they have the same problem?
It is very unlikely that you will be the inly flat affected if you live in an MDU (multi dwelling unit)
If this is the case, you will pay a 'service charge/maintenence fee to cover such instances, & there will be a company that is contracted by the management company that can be called out to repair the fault; at no cost to you directly if the system has failed.
I will PM you my number so that I can run through a few things with you if you would like me to do what I can to assist you.
Regards,
Nick

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Cheers Nick, I haven't access to my neigbours, and as far as I am aware they all have sky! My next point of call was to call the management company, but it has just been taken over by the residents themselves so once again, not sure who to call, hay ho it will suffice until next year, If you don't mind I will remember this post and if I need a hand I will defo be in touch
Thanks Xx

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
I can see by the photo that you have attached that it is an IRS system type installation, & I would put money on it being a faulty amplifier, switch or splitter in the system itself.
Even those that have Sky would be affected too in this case, as all signals (TV/Radio & Satellite) are combined & sent down the same individual cable; & it is the face plate in the lounge that then splits the signals again.
I would say that you have 4 connectors on the front of your wall plate. TV/Radio (maybe labelled FM/DAB), Sat1 & SAT2/Return?
Steve should have my details if you need them, feel free to contact me directly if you need any further help.

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Ok so most of that doesn't make sense lol, the only channels I could get in the lounge where BBC channels, alternatively in the bedroom I could only get everything but BBC!
Now using the bedroom socket in the lounge I get all channels, but in the bedroom I can't get BBC!
Yes you are completely right about the socket though!

Re: Who to phone when the TV signals not working?
Missing channels on various muxes are typical signs of amplifier/switch or splitter failure. You've done a grand job of improvising as a temporary solution & I'm impressed!
I would make a point of digging out your management company details, as even those that are 'in house' will have a committee of members & it will be the chairman/woman of the committee that makes the decision in finances when contracting in service & maintenance provisions.
I hope that you get it sorted imminently, but if you struggle & need anything further; please feel free to ask away.
Nick
