Dempsey's Show

Well, we went & showed.

6th place out of 6 dogs for the open show. He behaved impeccably, though, for the first time ever! Had a couple of people say to us afterwards that we were very unlucky & that the judge knew the first 3 placed! Oh, well, that's how it goes.

BUT, got 2nd place in the trophies (different judge), beaten only by the one that won best dog, so well pleased! Got a little rosette which will be lovingly kept.

This was almost certainly Dempsey's last show.

Go Dempsy!! Second place is great, and being well behaved is even better

He isn't good enough (showing wise) to do a lot of winning, and neither me or the OH particularly enjoy showing, so there doesn't seem to be much point! I might wait till he's 7 years old & enter him in veteran's class - there's only ever 1 or 2 dogs entered so he'll win then!!

AWWW bless him im so glad he behaved himself, i bet he was a little erm....big star! What a credit! I hope u took photos to show us! x

OH was supposed to be taking pics but didn't!!!

I don't like showing much, I get bored. Dempsey's ok with it, but he's not fussed one way or another. The strange thing is, despite the fact that he can be a real pain with other dogs, at Bull Terrier shows he doesn't misbehave. Odd.

He knows he has to be on best behaviour!

I think he just knows he's met his match, several times over!

I think the galling thing about the 6th place was the lack of competence of the judge. Now, you all know that, despite the fact that I love Dempsey very much, I know that he has several faults. He has one instanding canine, he moves slightly close behind, he doesn't have quite enough 'fill' to his head from the front. BUT, at least two of the dogs placed in front of him were not as good.

I know that sounds like sour grapes, but it isn't. The judge didn't even touch the dogs, just looked at them & didn't even check that they had 2 balls! After the judging a complete stranger came up to me & said he also thought the placings were bad.

Hey ho. That's showing. I doubt I'll go to any more, now, anyway.

I'v noticed that with quite a few bull terriers their quite dominant with other breeds but not their own.
