Diesel - One year old SBT

We recently bought diesel, he is one year old & weighs 17.5 kg, Been to the vets today & was told he should be between 20-21kgs, does anyone have any ideas how to bulk him up? hes currently on a high protein comnplete dry food & getting around 2hrs of excercise a day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi the vet is probably right we have a 2 year old girl she is 23 kilos and big for a female but not over weight. You could try adding cooked chicken and gravy to his meals and adding tuna and sardines too. They enjoy a change maybe he would eat more if you swapped around a bit. Are you feeding the recommended amount of food and how many times a day is he fed?

How tall is he from the ground to his shoulder? Vets like fatter dogs, but in a lot of cases they are overweight. My girl is 14.5inches tall and at the moment 17.5 - 18kilos and she is quite overweight (but lives outside so needs extra weight)

As standard a staffy should not be over 18kilos.

Was told not to add gravy due to salt content, been feeding him chicken & also scrambled eggs.

he stands around15 1/2 inch from shoulder to the floor, he could well be crossed with something looks like a staffy but as we dont know his background unsure of if hes definatly a pure or cross.

Also anyone any ideas how to build his confidence, weve noticed a he seems to lack eye contact & also every now & again when out his tail goes between his legs and he shakes a little.... Did the vet say why he shouold be heavier? To be honest, from the pics he looks just about perfect! I personally wouldn't like to see him any bigger.

Exercise will bulk his muscles up, but he's still not much more than a baby at 12 months old - he still has another 2 years of growing (filling out, not getting taller) to do!

Hi, She just weighed him & said he should be around 20-21kgs, he does have a lot of loose skin around his neck & on his body, not sure if this will ever go or if he will grow into it, was told his parents werent large so genetically he shouldnt be a large male in principal, he has a skin infection that hasnt been treated so is on a course of anti biotics to try and clear it up, also got him on cod liver oiln suplements to try & bring the oils out in his skin.

He really doesn't look skinny! As long as he's lively & happy, eating & drinking well, I'd leave well alone; you don't want to go too far & end up with him being overweight!

These are some photos ive just taken, yeah hes eating fine seems to be settling fine no crying or chewing etc had a few accidents but weve got him on a routine now & fingers crossed the last few accident free days are going to become the norm.

Welcome Diesel is gorgeous. Personally, I don't think he looks like he's underweight, he seems OK to me.
