I put Dempsey's bowl down, he eats it & then it gets picked up again. I don't like leaving food down all day.

lexi gets a mixed diet, she eats her meat immediately but her kibble is down all day. I would not practice this with a fussy eater of a dog but it works for her cause she eats anything and everything and has never turned her nose up at a meal.

I put Bella's food bowl down for about 10 minutes. I always make her sit anf wait patiently before I put the bowl down, so that can sometimes take a couple of minutes. Bella only has dry food so if there is anything left after 10 minutes I use it for treats when she sits / stays / uses her puppy pads etc.
