Re: Cigarette packaging in Australia
I think there may be something planned for here, I've never smoked myself, I cannot see the point.

Re: Cigarette packaging in Australia
there was talks a few months back to change all boxes to white unbranded packets over here but i think they settled on the all boxes must be kept behind shutters and not on view like what most supermarkets now do .
dont know how long small retailers have been given to comply but have notices a few starting to switch over

All the baccy and fags are behind a shutter in Morrisons now and the staff are not allowed to advise only hand over a list for you to read and choose, so If I say do you sell 12.5g pouch of GV or what's the cheapest fags you have in 10's they just hand over the list , so frustrating
But regarding the pictures on the packaging , IF I was still smoking Tailor mades I can honestly say it would not make the slightest bit of difference , maybe even be good as a conversation topic in the pub ( bit like playing Top Trumps )
Saw a girl on the news this morning and she said "IF I smoked that would put me off and make me stop", yeh right , obviously has not got a clue about smoking

In Hemel (the classey place that it is) they have different laws to the rest of the country. Here instead of the usual white box with "smoking makes your teath fall out" they have positive slogans for smokers.
Your also allowed to spark up in all public places whicle non smokers have to sit outside in the cold and rain. The council ran a campain in the local paper last month with the slogan "Quiting is for quiters!"

As a drinker Hayley , what would you do if they posted a pic of a girl half naked , lying in the gutter covered in puke on your favourite drink bottle
1) Stop drinking
2) Carry on drinking
3) Sue them for not getting your permission to publish the picture

Re: Cigarette packaging in Australia
I hope they do put this type of image on UK cigarette packets.
I do smoke and not even hypnotism from one of the UK's best hypnotists has stopped it, so would actually welcome a bit of a visual shock.
Good thread topic.

Keith do you really think if a hypnotist won't work you will fail for a pic, I'm ok they haven't put it on baccy pouches

Re: Cigarette packaging in Australia
Nope Dave, but it's a step in the right direction.
I actually wish they'd just ban tobacco overnight - that would make me stop.
I do want to stop.

Re: Cigarette packaging in Australia
unless i pay shop prices or got to belgium for 3 or 4 packets I don't think we will make it that far but it would be the obvious one

Re: Cigarette packaging in Australia
I started smoking at 10 years old. Never remember thinking I don't want to start smoking but that packet looks so amazing I just have to smoke. I have quit now for nearly 3 years. I think that the government can't have it both ways. Either they should be banned or they continue to earn silly amounts of tax money off the smokers and they leave the smokers alone. Whatever the government likes to tell you, they earn enough money off smokers to pay for the NHS, just because they don't use that money for it isn't the smokers fault.
