Teaching your staffy to walk upright Empty Teaching your staffy to walk upright

Views on this?

Some of my friends have said they can't see the point, others think it's "cruel" but don't have a tangible reason why, and the rest think it's good stimulation and a way to bond.

My current foster does it naturally - stands up on her back legs and walks around, which is slightly hilarious.

I don't see anything wrong with it kinda like teaching ur dog to 'dance' my girl can stand and do a cpl of steps on her bk legs, she loves it ! Any sort of positive stimulation with treat training is great IMO.

I wouldn't do it, but if you do, it should be done very gradually in order to build up the leg & back muscles. It can do quite serious damage otherwise.

There's no harm in it but i arnt really interested. All i want from my dog is to respect the family and be happy and behaved.
I want him be good around other people and dogs
not chew, sit when told and eventually recall when were on feilds.

more of obedient training than showing off training. If people can get there dogs to do that then fair play but its not a requirement i want gary to be able to do.

My son taught Lola to walk on her back legs, its funny to watch. She will also dance with you if you ask her, she also does beg. However her general behaviour is atrocious lol

I wouldn't do it as I would be concerned about the possible damage to the spine, I dont like the look of it either

Just another trick to show off with really. Never saw anything wrong with it, but it seems some people think it can be harmful, so I guess I'm not sure.

I don't think it's harmful as long as it's introduced gradually & the correct muscles built up. Like any exercise, really, too much too soon can be dangerous.

The heelwork to music people train their dogs to do this, but it takes them about 6 months to get them properly fit for it.

Pixee can do it without us telling her to. We kind of ignore it as we dont like it in case it does some damage, but it is cute to watch when she does it.
