Re: please pass it on
Totally agree with that - I live with someone who suffers clinical depression. Not easy to live with or deal with.

Re: please pass it on
I work in the care sector and even there the attitudes towards mental health disorders from some are quite shocking.
I've seen this posted a few times on fb and people are more willing to reply about their own experiences which is great. Mental health professionals are working hard to change attitudes and the stigma and thankfully it seems to be slowly getting through

I suffer from depression myself, for which I take medication, its great to know the support network is there for fellow sufferers.

me too and although i am not proud, i am also not ashamed, anyone who has been at the bottom and come back, comes back stronger, more caring and more aware of others needs and although hard at times i DO hold my head high and carry myself with pride. So if anyone ever wants to judge me because of an illness i am confident enough in myself that i don't need to care or worry

Re: please pass it on
Talk to your dr,there are so many types of medication please just don't give up on them, also counselling is a very good avenue and also your local mind group will have access to good help for you and may also provide company in the form of groups, and good distraction from negative feelings.BUT most importantly you are NOT alone so don't suffer alone

Re: please pass it on
I was also going to suggest a chat with your GP. Also get a second opinion if you are not happy with the first one.

Great minds think alike.
I have found that Rocky has helped an awful lot with me too. He is a great listener.

Healthy exercise, clean air, lovely views and occasionally meeting nice people who are like minded all through our companions at our heels makes them heaven sent

Re: please pass it on
iv suffered with bad depression for over 20 years now and know how hard and how miss understood it can be my life has went to the bottom several times and you go down a lot quicker than you can come back up but you must never give up there 100s of combinations of meds that can be tried .yes they may only work for relatively short times 6/18 months but there always something else to try .
i would agree a dog/pet can help a lot as does exercise

Thank you to everyone who has posted,if even just one person who needs to know they are not alone especially at this time of year and the next 8 weeks reads this and feels encouraged to get help, then we are winning together to beat mental illness

Re: please pass it on
Used to see a counsellor for depression, and have some ridiculous anxiety problems regarding interacting with people. It's good that people on here (and others in general) are so understanding of how difficult it can be. I think most people would just tell you "Get over it" and that's that. Loki has helped a lot though, having a puppy you need to socialise means you have to speak to people and that people will speak to you, so that's the best kind of help I could possibly have had.

get over it, pull your socks up,its easy whats the matter with you? everyone has problems, and i'm sure somebody is reading this thread and thinking them very same thoughts. until it hits you there is no understanding it.Sometimes a bit of empathy is enough. I really hope if somebody is suffering and reads these posts that they will start a thread and just ask for help. And as i have said it's very brave to admit to depression on here and i am really pleased with the responses and so should everyone else be

Sometimes I dont know what I would do if I didnt have this forum to come and chat on. I feel that I have made some very good friends here and everyone is always so willing to help others and are very approachable.
