new to the breed. biting
dorris is nearly 8 weeks old had her since monday and she does really nip hard and tug at clothes but she only seems to do it to me not my mum, but my yorkshire terrier was like it when she was a pup. i tell dorris no firmly or clap my hands or make like a yelp noise, but she still carries on the cheeky girl. i blew on her on slight and she stopped. would this be a bad thing to do? i dont want to frighten her. x

Re: new to the breed. biting
I wouldn't blow on her, it'll make her head shy, just like tapping a dog on the nose.
Try to remember that she is only a baby, and is playing the way she would have played with her siblings. It will take a little while to get across to her that she mustn't do it to people.
When she nips or pulls your clothes, tell her "no" and turn away from her. Totally ignore her, don't even make eye contact. If she carried on, put her out of the room for 30 seconds. She will understand soon, but a pup can't change its ways in a couple of days.

ok ill not blow on her dont want to make her head shy. when i give her a toy she soon gets bored of it and carry on tugging at me, i had this with my yorkshire terrier when she was a pup. oh the joys of puppyhood she is having her first injections on monday as she has not had any at all while with her mum and dad. im looking forward to when she can go out so she can go to puppy classes as she needs to be confident around other dogs and people

She'll get there in time. Often the slower methods of training give the best long term results. Years ago you were told to tap a pup on the nose for nipping - yes, it stopped them nipping, but it made them cringe away when anybody raised their hand!

Re: new to the breed. biting
Hi and welcome from us and Suki. The whinning is very normal for a pup and only lasts a little while. A TV or radio at low volume will help her to settle

Hi and welcome from Me n Steffi, Owning a dog is a responsibility that you took on, crying and whining only lasts a short time until they adjust.. She is only a baby, give her a chance to settle in..

Sorry your 24 you got the dog, it is ridiculous giving it up for doing what a pup does. Would she make you give a baby up for crying? no different.

Re: new to the breed. biting
Sounds like you need to stand your ground with your mum , sorry if I'm speaking out of turn but surely your mum knows to expect such things out of a puppy. Do you have her in a crate ?? where does she sleep ?? Is there not a quieter part of the house where she can go until she is more settled. Or you could try what we have done and have her close to you so she could hopefully settle more quickly.

Keep going, and stick with it. What you put in now you will reap back in love and loyalty ten fold as she grows. And definitely stand your ground with anyone who suggests otherwise, you won't regret it. She's beautiful.

Re: new to the breed. biting
Welcome to the forum. Our dog is 2 and a half and still tends to gently bite hands during play. We just tell her to stop and she usually does. She loves a game of tug of war though

Re: new to the breed. biting
Hi from me and a sloppy staffy welcome from Kia
she looks fine to me they hold there ears in different positions all the time, but if your worried about anything just mention it to the vet when you take her for her jabs.
btw, Dorris is adorable so keep up the training and you will get there in the end
