Holiday Blues
Hi Everyone,
Going on holidays soon but unfortunately we have to leave our baby girl in a kennel for ten days. It's the very first time we've ever had to kennel one of our dogs and the closer it gets the more anxious I'm becoming. We spent quite some time choosing the kennel and we're as happy with the facilities as we're ever going to be. I'm just worried about how she's going to settle in, she's so spoilt at home, sleeps in our room and always has someone at home with her. We intend to take her toys and bedding with her, although there's arguments for and against this.
She's very easy going, loves everyone and is very social with other dogs too!
Any advice or experience for a very worried mum?

I'm sure Zoey will be fine in the kennels, just think of all that love you will receive on your return.

Re: Holiday Blues
I worked in a boarding kennels for a few years, and it's really surprising how quickly dogs adapt to their new environment, which isn't particularly nice for the owner to hear when they're missing them like mad
If you're happy with the facilities you've probably chosen a lovely boarding kennels, I know with ours the dogs in our care got off lead running and play time three times a day, which is more than most dogs get at home!! They mostly slept in between exercise and feeding times. It may be a little stressful for you both initially seeing as it's a new place and she hasn't been left before, but try not to worry too much!

Re: Holiday Blues
Hi again everyone! Back home again after our holidays and am sooo happy to say that Zoey had a great time too!!! We had a couple of pet reports from the kennels and lots of photos while we were away which helped to ease our concerns. She had a glowing report from all of the kennel staff too, they said she just loved everyone and was really social with the other dogs. I was wondering how she would settle in again when she got home and whether it might affect her house training, but so far so good.
So, would I do it again? Yes. Even though it broke my heart leaving her I know she really did have a good time with so many other play mates. Physically she looks good too, probably a little leaner (we provided her regular diet) but I put that down to constant activity with the other dogs, whereas at home, she sleeps a lot between her walks. Although, her chest has filled out a little more as we had to adjust her harness.
Looking forward to catching up on all the site activity!

Re: Holiday Blues
That's really great to hear that she settled into the kennels and had a good time while you were on holiday. Must have been easier to enjoy yourself too so where are our pictures?

Re: Holiday Blues
ive worked in kennels for 6 years, trust me the dogs don't really care!! lol
They are always happy and adapt within 1 or 2 days to the new routine. Your dog will be absolutely fine.

Re: Holiday Blues
we leave miley in May for 2 days in kennels. We took a while choosing them and went on reviews of the place. They will buy in for her the same food and she can take toys and bones with her. She also can socialise with other dogs and have playtime. It is hard to leave them there but going to pick them up is great
