dog-proof Christmas trees?
just wondering... how do you deal with putting up a Christmas tree and keeping your dog away from it? Jelly's first Christmas is coming up, and I'm thinking maybe it's time to bring the super-soaker indoors so we can keep her away from it. It would take a LOT of bitter apple spray to cover a Christmas tree otherwise!

Re: dog-proof Christmas trees?
We just didn't put one up last year. This year I think we will use gates to keep her away

Re: dog-proof Christmas trees?
We stopped using real trees many years ago - the dogs always peed up them, they tore the decorations off them (and tipped them over) & the needles got stuck in their paws!
I use an artificial one & stand it on a table.

We just bring our tree in from the shed, its an artificial one, then let Rocky have a sniff of it, then assemble it. We are lucky he has never touched anything on the tree once it is decorated. Just try a firm LEAVE should you need to.

Polly met her first Christmas tree last year and wasn't impressed at all, even dangling decorations and flashing lights couldn't capture her attention
This year we have got Charlie the superbrat and we are taking no chances, the tree is going in the conservatory

I've been thinking exactly the same...I think this Xmas is gonna be even more fun than normal with having Percy to share the fun with.
My daughter is already worrying about "how is Santa going to get in the living room to put her pressies under the tree without waking up Percy?" ( he sleeps in his crate in the living room)
So I'm trying to think of a believable "lie" to answer that question
Maybe Santa sprinkles magic sleeping dust over Percy's crate so he doesn't wake up??? (must remember to sprinkle some glitter around Percy's crate before going to bed) x

I asked my daughter she didn't think santa ate all the mince pies he got left did she? thats how he becomes friends with every dog in the world he feeds them mince pies and because he is magic they know he wants them to be quiet lol

We've been asking ourselves this same question. It's not going to end well, I can feel it now

Re: dog-proof Christmas trees?
LOL yes, I can see a disaster in the making! We are really working on LEAVE (she's so funny and cute, I do it with her food at every meal and she stis way far back and when I say leave she won't even look at it, turns her head as far away as she can, bless her - OMG it's so adorable! I just don't have the heart to make her leave it for a long time, only a second or two, but I'm getting there)
Anyway, I digress... Lou, that would be really sweet to tell your daughter, I love it! sleeping dust around the crate sounds so cute too
And the mince pies... too much! My step-kids were told by their mother a few years ago that Santa isn't real and it's all just folly. Lovely, it's like a Vulcan is raising them. But oh well... it's nice to hear how you all handle it and getting the dogs involved is great too!
