problems when playing
Hi all we are new to the forum. We have a 2 and a half year old bitch from a rescue centre. We have had her for 7 months now and when she is playing with us she tends to get carried away and bites quite hard. She has on 2 occasions broken the skin in my hand and made it bleed. Do we not play with her any more? Some people say you should not let staffys mouth your hands etc is this true as we have never had a staffy before

Re: problems when playing
Sounds like she might not have learned bite inhibition before. Here is a link that will help

Playing rough with them is an individual decision. I will play rough with Suki and she will on occasion give me a cut or bruise. I don't mind so no harm done.

Re: problems when playing
You could just be careful & watch for when she gets a bit carried away. That's the time to stop the play & calm her down.

too often its hard to stop her as she is pretty fast. We have managed to calm her though by grabbing her not hard by the scruff of her neck then she calms down after that

Re: problems when playing
If you can hold her still long enough, try gently stroking the soft skin at the top & inside of her hind leg - that'll normally get them calm again!

Re: problems when playing
We are working on this as Dex occasionally forgets we are soft as butter and although he hasn't hurt us he has been close. We realised he knows "gentle", and if we say that he calms down and licks instead. They get so over excited so easily bless them
