sash update
just got back from the vets,we saw tim who is the main man so to speak and has always been brill with her,she was really pleased to see him ,she just let him examine her,no fuss at all,he said she's a swollen mess down below ,he does'nt want to go in and do surgery as at the mo as her skin tissue is so swollen it could do more damage than good,so we got to go back in a week and hopefully the swelling would start to go down and he could see better,we got to bathe the wounds with cool green tea and apply medical honey to the puncture wounds as well as antibiotics and anti inflams(most expensive tube of honey i've ever brought!).he asked us if we were reporting the dog to the police, how can you report one of your own??what if you did'nt have a staffy he asked us,the damage the dog has done would have harmed a smaller dog a lot more,i just dont think i could.what are your thoughts.our vet thinks she is going to be ok but did say the worst she could be is to loose her tail, but not even going there.

Re: sash update
Healing thoughts to Sasha, great u saw the main vet, sounds like he knows what he's doing.
With regard to reporting it to the police.... If it happened to one of mine, I probably would. Staffy or not, noone or nothing harms my dogs.
Again it comes bk to the owners, I hope this incident makes the owners of the other dog more guarded with letting their dog near others. On the upside, as u have the details of the owner they can pay the huge vet bill ur likely to be handed.

Re: sash update
I would go back to the owner of the other dog & tell them what's been sugested. Guage his reaction.
If he's genuinely upset by what's happened he'll make sure that it doesn't happen again (ie, he'll keep his dog under control!). If that's the case I wouldn't report it. But if he's going to make no effort to prevent a reoccurance I'd definitely report it (after he's paid for the vets bills! ).
Just a thought. Are you insured? If you need to make a claim, the insurance company might insist that the matter is reported to the police & they may want to take matters up with the owner themselves.

Sending many healing hugs to Sasha >< >< ><
Honey had been used for healing wounds for many centuries and is again now being taken up again. A story below of a dog that was badly burned and healed with honey patches. The honey is expensive because it is from New Zealand and is sterilized :

The manuka honey is available on line:

Oh hun, I hope the treatment works for you, and don't even think about the worst, there amazing little things and always bounce back ><
I'm not sure about reporting the dog, it may have been a one off, I have seen a friends dog attack a boxer, totally unprovoked and very scarey, but I couldn't have reported him.
Sending lots of healing vibes and cuddles your way ><

I have, but not on dogs! But it's supposed to be ok with dogs - just be careful you don't use it on any sore spots or the open wounds.
I have used honey on Dempsey - when he had his ear mangles last year, the vet had to cut away a lot of dead skin from the infected ear base. It left a gaping hole about half an inch diameter & the vet recommended putting some manuka honey ointment in to the hole twice a day. It healed really quickly, the new skin growing over it was really healthy looking & there's hardly a scar there at all, so although it's expensive, I'm a great fan of honey healing!

Re: sash update
Stella - Arnice is very good for bruising and swelling but I would be tempted to wait until the wounds actually heal over as it might sting if it gets into them (I have never used it near an open wound). I would say when it scabs over to use some as it is actually very effective and takes away bruising much more quickly than natural healing time.

Re: sash update
Poor Sasha hope the swelling goes down and all goes well soon. As for reporting him, I wouldn't, personally. He doesn't seem like a bad owner, but I guess unless it was a one-off, he'll have to be more aware of what his dog can do.

Re: sash update
hope sasha is doing okay. I agree with caryll, if he is going to take measures not to have it happen again then i wouldnt report. Unfortunately he has had a shock and a bite himself.. he may get rid of the dog or something.
He seems to be trying to make it up to you so might just give the benefit of doubt this time but strongly suggest a lead!
hugs to sasha!

Re: sash update
Hi Sasha, do hope Sasha gets through this without too many problems. I doubt if the Police will get involved since it is not a criminal offence for a dog to attack another dog. More likely they will refer the incident to the Councils Dog Warden, who will advise the owner to muzzle his dog in public and to be on a lead at all times, also, may ask for it to be neutered. Whatever you decide make sure the other owner pays your Vets bill in full first.

Glad she is feeling better. I think the owner sounds like a reliable person I would make sure he pays the bills. I don't think I would report him but would let him know the vet suggested it so he can make sure this doesn't happen again

Re: sash update
Fingers, paws crossed all will be healed by next week. I wouldnt report the owner yet, as it could be a one off, these things can happen, but at least if he pays the vets bills and he has phoned, he seem geniune. But its up to you really. Put it this way, if it was any other dog, would you think about reporting it, would the vet have suggested it?

Re: sash update
Poor Sasha - healing vibes are on their way ><
I've heard very good reports regarding direct application of Manuka honey (has to be Manuka for some reason) so I'd definitely try that - at worst it won't do any harm (unless Sasha licks at it).
Arnica tincture is very good for bruising but don't apply it direct - use the dog-safe pills.
The best of luck to both of you - please keep us updated.

Re: sash update
So glad to hear that your attacker's owner is being a decent guy. He should be able to claim on his own dog's 3rd party insurance, but don't forget to remind him that there will probably be more expenses to come (including the stuff you have to buy yourself, like the honey and arnica). AND he's going to do his best to make sure there are no reoccurences - double good.

Wishing Sasha a speedy recovery. This also applies to you as the experience must have been traumatic for you too.
On the topic of the owner, I think he needs to keep his dog on the lead at all times when in public and consider a muzzle. I would give him the benefit of the doubt as he has seemed genuine. I would take a different approach if I were to see his dog off lead again.
