We took Duke to the beach yesterday he had a great time digging in the dunes, he met some friendly dogs and owners along with a very submissive Spaniel that just lied on her back for him Smile, but as we were leaving the beach a Retriever aged about 8 months bounded over he was off the lead and his owner had clearly not taught him recall, he didn't sniff Duke but pinned him to the floor by his throat and boy did he mean it , his owner was still twenty yards away so i grabbed the retriever by the back of his neck this made him let go, i then said some words i can't type here while my wife Gill checked Duke over .

The owner a guy in his early 60's finally got there and started to threaten his dog with a walking stick, now im not a guy who can hold his tongue in a situation like this, so i asked the guy why his dog was off the lead when he has had no recall training, only way to learn him off the lead was his answer, i told him that threatening a dog with a walking stick is not the way to train a dog and he would do well to keep him on a lead, he muttered something under his breath pulled his dog away and off he went , it makes me wonder what is in some people's heads ?, as we left the beach a very nice lady was stood with her Retriever she said she saw it all she was local and said a good few people are giving this guy a wide berth i wonder why .

Such a shame for the dog, but all you can do is try and educate.

At least you tried to talk some sense into him. Can't help everyone see that there are better ways of doing things. Hope Duke is OK. Some owners just...have the wrong ideas about things, unfortunately.

I see this is my local park nearly every day. I physically cringe sometimes by what some people do to their dogs. I do put them right though and just hope they listen to a nagging old lady.
