Insight into her previous training?
Just took Beryl for her first walk up to the field where all the dogs in the area go off lead, I kept beryl on a long lead as she's not very good with other dogs at all, the plan was to try the Favourite toy distraction technique, well she wasn't too bad with other dogs ( she seems to not be as bothered by smaller dogs but wants to pick a fight with lots of the bigger dogs!)
Anyway back to the ball, she just completely ignored it the whole time I tried to use it, however once we got home I took her harness ( and hoodie off) and she went bonkers! Was jumping up at me trying to get the ball out of my pocket and running up and down the corridor, then she decided as I wasn't playing fetch with her ball she'd grab her rather large knuckle bone and bring that to me to throw for her!!
So I'm guessing she has previously been off the lead and played fetch so maybe she might be good at recall after all?
Its just finding somewhere quiet enough and enough people around to keep an eye on her if she does try to do a runner!!

It could also mean that she's not been walked much & didn't know you can chase or play with a ball outside!

Could be. Maybe she was too distracted to play with the ball then, but once the distractions were gone she wanted to play. Play it with her in the house/yard at first and see if she likes it? But I guess you just have to find somewhere quiet to let her off the lead if she's not too good with other dogs.

We only found a quiet place to let Rocky off lead about 6 months ago. it is a field out in the country but only about 15 minutes drive away. It really was well worth finding and it is hardly ever used by any other dog walkers.

Do you have any tennis courts or the like that aren't used in this weather, they'll be fenced in and you can see how she responds to you and 'fetch'
