Hasn't eaten since last night
Beryls not eaten since last night and been asleep all day, she ate a bit of food last night but by no means her full food allowance and I chucked that out and refilled it with fresh food at normal feeding time this afternoon and she just sniffed it and came back to sleep next to me. We had the usual normally formed poo (in the living room ) this morning and when she's awake she's having a drink of water.
At what point is it ok to become neurotic new mum and whisk her to the vets?!

I'd leave it and monitor it for a bit longer, but then I'm not one to rush to the vets, be more annoyed at the poo in the lounge!!

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
I'd try tempting her with something tasty to see if she's bored with her food or a little unwell.
If she's drinking, hasn't got the runs & isn't throwing up, I wouldn't start to panic just yet!

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
If she's lethargic tomorrow and still not eating (and especially if her ears are hotter than usual) then I would just check with the vet.
However, sometimes dogs are tireder/more sleepy some days and/or don't feel particularly hungry.
I also have found that my pup is a fussy eater and gets bored VERY easily. If I give him the same food that he yummed up the previous time, he will turn his nose up. So I mix different yummy things in at each meal to tempt him - sardines, tripe, chopped cooked liver etc (yes I KNOW he's a spoiled brat!).
It's hard as new "Mum" not to worry so I sympathise. Let us know how she gets on.

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
Thanks for the advice guys, the rescue home fed her on Royal Canins and gave us a massive bag to carry on with. She just ate a treat and hasn't been rummaging in the bins and didn't even wake up when we had our dinner ( we had had a bit of a begging issue in the first few days of arrival but we wanted it stamped out as quickly as possible)
Maybe its a clever ploy for me to feel sorry for her because I've stopped letting her into my room at night!!

When did you stop her going into your room at night?

OK great - Personally I think she is just settling in, probably coupled with the "Staffy sulks" because of the bed thing (Staffs just love human company and she has only just found you).
I stand to be corrected, but I think with some patience and consistence all will be well.

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
Just managed to sit down ( had the joys of parents evening this evening!)
Well she ate her dinner over night and I put down the dinner tonight and its not been touched again so maybe she's just decided to eat over night instead of the minute its put down?

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
Good to hear that she ate up overnight.
My personal feeling is that she is still settling in - it must all be new and strange to her - and will only eat when she feels quiet and comfortable (I'm the same myself! ) I'm sure I don't need to tell you not to fuss around her food - she won't starve herself but will eat when she's ready amd not feeling stressed.
Do let us know how you get on ....

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
I was at a careers event all day today so she was at home with my parents and when I rang to check if I needed to get shopping Dad was slightly concerned that she'd been in her bed all day sleeping, not touched her dinner etc, the minute I got home she was jumping round like loon and ate half her dinner,
In general she's become more and more relaxed with every day and the real progress was last night she didn't try to head butt my door open once
I think the food thing might have just been the whole well is this really my forever home or should I hold back some of my food just in case its all just a Derren Brown experiment and I wake up and my forever home has disappeared

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
Ah lovely to hear that she is settling in, she is obviously attached to you already.
She can't be sure in her own little mind yet that this is her forever home so some anxiety is natural at this early stage, epecially if your parents' home where she spent some time today is not your home. If your parents' home is also your home then she won't have been so disorientated and was just missing you! Either way, she WILL settle down, don't worry.

Thanks, yes it is all our homes, I moved back in 3 years ago ( just before my big 3-0) after a relationship breakdown/career crises ( hence the Student tag) and sadly 2 years after my mum was diagnosed with early onset alzhiemers

Re: Hasn't eaten since last night
Pixee never did settle down until she sleeped in our bedroom in her own bed. She just needs to be close to humans too. Now she sleeps so well that when the alarms goes off, it clue for her to jump on our bed for kisses and cuddles, and while hubby is off to work, and I work from home, she will have her second sleep on our bed till 9am to 10.30 am the lazy madam . Like Beryl she was so fussy with her food, finally found her a food she likes, wainwrights trays, duck and turkey are the ones she likes. When we finish our tea, she knows she is in for a treat, left over scraps. Some mornings she may not eat her breakfast, I have learned that she is not a dog that has to eat everything you put in front of her, so I go along with her and dont worry, so long as she does have her tea. And she is a good weight too. She was so skinny when we had her. I think your Beryl is not sleeping in the night so making up for it in the day as she wants to be close to you night time. Can you not let her sleep in your bedroom in her own bed? But she will settle down
Sorry to hear about your mom. This is so sad.
