How to teach my puppy the STANCE
Hi guys,
How are you all? I have a beautiful lil baby girl who is 15 weeks old and the colour red she is just beautiful. I just love looking at staffys when they are in the alert stance it looks so powerful and moving. I was wanting to know how i can teach my baby girl this stance, she does do it on her own but only once in awhile.

Re: How to teach my puppy the STANCE
Do you mean the kind of stance that you would see them in the show-ring?
If so have a look at this: (sorry if I get in trouble for cross-posting from another forum!).

Re: How to teach my puppy the STANCE
Firstly, you need to teach your dog to stand & stay still on command. Once you've done that, find a really high value treat or toy. Then all you need to do is get their attention whilst standing, with the treat or toy.

Re: How to teach my puppy the STANCE
I always wondered how to do this, then as Molly got bigger she started doing it naturally.
As Caryll said teach the dog basic commands first, then the rest will be a lot easier!

Re: How to teach my puppy the STANCE
Taz always done it naturally and everytime i see him do i'd say pride and give a treat and now blondy does it all the time but i'v not told her too or treated her for it yet. but before all that, to make it easier on yourself really teach other basic commands first.

Its automatic you cant really teach them as the pose/stance looks its best when natural like caryll says a toy is good.

Re: How to teach my puppy the STANCE
Molly seems to do it more when she's impatient, we occasionally go out in the country to take photographs of landscapes, and if she is with us, she gets very impatient and doesn't want to wait whilst we take photos, and I've noticed she is more prone to stancing in this sort of situation. The same happens if we are talking to someone across the street (if they're on the same side as us, she's usually all over them).
