Home made wheat free doggy treats
Shaz here. I am a member of a food forum. One of the posters posted a recipe for the above. Knowing Sophie's food allergies we have had to rely on f4d as training treats.
We tried this and it worked really well and have proved a valuable additional training treat.
I checked with the original poster and she is more than happy to share withh you lot.
Recipe as follows:
Take a pack of liver - any sort - I used pigs liver which cost 55p. Put into a casserole with a sliced carrot and a couple of crushed garlic cloves. Cover with boiling water, and cook in the oven at 160 C for an hour.
Remove from oven, and take out the liver. Save the carrot and juices to pour over the dog's dinner as a treat.
Dice the liver into small pieces about the size of your little finger nail, and put on a baking tray. Bake in a very slow oven - 130 to 140 C - for about two hours, by which time the liver pieces will be dry.
Enjoy

Re: Home made wheat free doggy treats
Hi Kathy, I appreciate long term this is probably the right place for this thread, but on a temporary basis, could it please be moved back to 'chat'.
It really is a good recipe for doggies particularly being wheat free as dogs with restrictions like Sophie's rarely get treats.
I just feel this part of the board does not get the 'movement' the chat forum does. ><
Many thanks,
Shaz.

I cut up liver in to small chunks
Boil for 10 minutes
Put on a baking tray
Smear some crushed garlic over (don't need to if don't want)
Cook on low heat until dried out, or done as much as you want.
Dead easy

Used this recipe 20 years ago for my GSD training and using them for Bacchus now. TBH you don't even need to use a casserole, just place in a saucepan, cover with boiling water, bring back to the boil for 5 mins, turn off the heat and leave to cool then carry on as per Bobs recipe.
Dogs DO love them.
